New Jersey officers dress up as shrubs to catch distracted drivers on their phones

Just my opinion, and not exclusive to this, but I think there should always be a visibility requirement for any police/civilian interaction that results in a citation.

This is some government surveillance I can get behind. I don’t know if I have a bigger pet peeve right now than people staring at their phones while driving.

I might not realize that's a cop, but it would be extremely obvious to me that that's a person rather than a plant.

I agree to a point. People shouldn’t be looking at a phone while driving, I also know it’s about the ticket money going back into the system that’s generating all of this. If a cop can look down and operate a literal laptop while driving, what’s the difference between that and me looking at a text? Neither should happen, but I’ll get a ticket and the cop operating a laptop goes on about his or hers day.

This in particular is nothing more than some BS publicity stunt to get people like us to talk about it on random message boards across the internet. At its core, it’s a double standard when it comes to police officers VS citizens when it comes to the whole hands free thing.

I'd probably slow down because I'd want to get a look at that wacky person who's dressed up as a plant.
Even though I probably wouldn't realize it's a policeman, it would be the same practical effect as if I saw a policeman. I'd end up slowing my car down.
I think this town would be better off just having some officers dressed in plainclothes look for speeders.
