wait until they tell you the Emergency brake is bad- MFG is now making the ER brake a separate drum and shoe system- cost to replace is over 500

Unless the car automatically engages it for some reason, I doubt it’s ever been used. I engage mine every time I shut the car off, but do people with automatics even use such a thing?

.but the software on these new cars is nuts. There’s new shite or different screen looks every time we take it in.

It's a great system, really.

Load the car up with software that requires constant updating, then make the service shop's update system so damn expensive that few indy's can afford it. Forces people back into the dealership service shop.

Yup, and the this fricker is in Metairie...We live in MS. The dealer in Mobile is 100 miles away, but it may be quicker than driving through NOLA.

ETA: and it’s been 5+ hours since she dropped it off.

Under 40 for the pads.

Why would anyone spend $40-60K on a car and buy discount aftermarket brake pads, a part of the car your personal safety depends on?

30k is not far out of line for brakes for a Euro SUV. My wife's Q7 needed them at 35 and she is really easy on a vehicle.

Just did a front brake job on my 2500HD yesterday with performance parts. Took about three hours:

AC Delco Specialty Performance Rotors: $108 x2
Hawk LTS pads: $81
AC Delco Calipber Bracket hardware: $17

Total w/tax = $345

I could've done it for like $30 if I had rotors that could be turned, not put new hardware on (most shops don't), and gotten cheap pads. I basically got the most expensive stuff I could. She got robbed

Volvo is your problem. By far worst auto manufacturer/dealer out there.
Get used to it. Buy a big jar of Vaseline.
All these geniuses that say they could have done it for 350, won't have the software to reset the antilock sensor. Add 150 to tow to dealership, plus another 250 to reset sensor. 750 total.
Sounds like you got a deal.

I think people are super intimidated by brakes.

After the tires off, it's rarely more than two bolts, two pins, and pushing the piston in with a clamp or twisting with open needlenose.

I'll pay for an oil change before a brake job any day.

Here are the rear brakes that “need to be changed”.

same price they gave me when i brought my nieces s40 in for key programing, something just over $550

the guy says they do a courtesy safety inspection on all vehicles and i needed a brake job on it, i said ok, i'll do it myself when i get home. he tells me, "but sir we include a full fluid flush and replace and it takes a professional to do that

any way, i get home and check the pads and they are all still 1/4" thick so they were scamming for unnecessary work done

That's all those safety inspections are. A cover for how they found the supposed flaw in your vehicle.

And that is why oil changes and rotations are cheap.

Get you in the door to fleece you with bullshite work.

My daughter (home from college no pics) took her SUV in to have the transmission fluid changed. (It’s a sealed system and it voids any warranty if the dealer does not do that particular service). I was already told that it would be $89.00 to do it.

About an hour later, she called me to tell me the dealer did a comprehensive evaluation and it needed an Oil and filter change, a air filter and cabin filter change, spark plugs and coolant changed. I told her to say no and to text me when they finished the transmission service. I went down to the dealer and showed the service manager my receipts for all of the parts for the above work that I had already done in my own garage less than 3 weeks earlier and did he think that was an honest assessment of the vehicles actual needs? I even pulled the filters out to show him how white they were.

I got an apology and he waived the service fee for the transmission as well.

I wish there was more you could do to punish them for that stuff.

Those are both back, I should look at the front too. Snapped a quick pic, they look fine from this angle.
