If it makes you feel worse, I just paid $440 for all 4 rotors and pads and an oil change on my wife's car.

Nope, just pads. The more I research it the more I’m feeling better about it. Seems like that’s what others pay for pads too. shite, glad she didn’t damage the rotors.

That's because they'll convince you that you need all 4 pads and rotors changed every time. fricking con-artists.

Let's figure this out. You can go to O'Reilly's and get brake pads for.. I think I remember seeing some for about $18.00 for the cheapest, but let's say you get them from a parts store for as much as $60.
If the car was brought to a dealership, they probably get them a little cheaper.. So let's just say it cost them $30 to get them.
It takes them less than an hr to change them, but they will charge you an hr.. If they charge for longer than that they are full of shite.
So if they bought the pads for $30, they would probably likely charge you about $80 them.. Let's say the person who changes the pads makes $25.00/hr.
Pads: $30
1 Hr: $25
Total: $55
So they made about $545 off of you.

I’ll watch them in the future and do it myself, apparently there’s an electronic E brake of sorts you have unwind with a power source.

I changed the rotors and pads on my wifes SUV for under 200 and spent less than an hour doing it. The dealership had quoted 350 for just the rear brakes. If you own a jack, a jack stand, a socket set and either channel locks or C clamps there is no reason not to do them yourself.
