I support legal weed, but don’t support banning employers from testing for it. Let the market figure this shite out, get the government out of it.

Employers should be able to screen employees in any way they want...short of constitutional protections (race, sex, etc. )

I think it's bullshite for the gov to dictate what a private company can do. If a place of business prefers to drug test potential employees, they should be able to

This is where I am. I read an article that said that companies in legal states have already been quietly abandoning testing for weed because they couldn't find enough qualified applicants when they do screen.

If there was a field sobriety test for marijuana, all of the preemployment screenings would go away IMO...

For example, I’m about as pro-420 as it gets, but at the same time, I wouldn’t want a crane operator to lift anything over my head and be loaded while doing it

This is a step in the right direction, but we still aren’t where we need to be, tech wise

When will DOT regulated industries stop randomly testing for THC?

This is kinda where I am, but marijuana is legal in Nevada so I also think it's bullshite a company can refuse to hire you for you enjoying something legal on your own time. Apply the standard to beer, and assume consumption of beer stays in your system for 2-3 weeks. Would we be cool with companies testing for beer consumption as a condition for employment? The assumption is a marijuana smoker may show up to work high, but why don't we make that assumption for beer drinkers?

Want to become a billionaire? Find a way for a drug test to show if drugs are in the system at that given moment and not from sometime over the past week to 3 months. Much like A BAC.

Pretty sure companies would have a legit case to sue against this law. I can't see it holding up.

I know it's a little off the rails here, but I live 45 minutes from the Nevada line and 45 Minutes from Oregon. I just want to smoke a joint but it's guaranteed that if I buy a bag Barney Fife will be running his dog around my truck as soon as I crossed back into Idaho.

My only issue is the time that pot stays in the system. You'd think we'd have a better test for that by now. I DGAF what my employees ingest on their own time, but I do care if they're using it on my time. As of right now, if they're in an accident and not currently under the influence, but they've smoked the weekend prior, then they lose their job when the drug test comes back positive. That's not cool. I'd like to fire the deadbeats and keep the people who are responsible users.

"That's great, Cheech.

You're hired. Now, go piss in this cup for me."

That's how that's gonna go, if the law is all about pre-employment testing.

so raping little kids is ok, if it is on their own time and at their own house?

I'd be fine if this applied only to Nevada government employee/applicants (i.e., gov't can do what it wants regarding its own hiring practices), but I think it is extreme overreach to tell a private employer they can't test and disqualify applicants based on drug use.

This is true, here. Companies spend a massive amount of money on training new people (that are gonna get fired in two months for popping a pot test because they smoked in their off time) because they just fired somebody (for popping a pot test because they smoked in their off time) that they'd already spent money training.

Making it just like alcohol where you get shitcanned for being shitcanned on the job, but you don't get shitcanned because you got shitcanned at Tiger Stadium would be an absolutely MASSIVE cost savings for companies.

There are exceptions built into the bill, but an employer should be able to disqualify a candidate for any reason they want.

i think the big push is insurance companies, especially in the construction industry. having a pre-employment and "random" testing program helps with liability and risk. take that away and workers comp and liability rates will shoot up. making the cost of construction go up

Mild weed use isn’t a problem. However, the government telling employers whether they can disqualify potential employees for such use (wanting to have a certain culture in their workplace) is absurd.

Let employers do what they will, even if it’s silly. I swear, people just wanna beat each other over the head with the big stick of government at their convenience.

Weed is legal. Raping ain’t.

Didn’t think it needed to be spelled out.
