Shahm Pon (pond without the d sound) in Terrebonne.

And then if you’re in a city like New Orleans or Baton Rouge, it’s just Sham Pane.

Guillot in those cities will be Gil Yot but in the country will be Gee Yo.

Hebert will be A-Bear everywhere in the state, though, and even Theriot will be Terry O

Bayou La Batre, Alabama is pronounced wrong in Forrest Gump.

"Ball-ah-bah-tree" is the local pronunciation

Go to the Midwest or West Coast and see how they pronounce Hebert and Theriot. It's he-bert and ther-i-ot.

But since Ryan Theriot played MLB, a lot more people pronounces Theriot the Cajun way.

Oh, I know. I'm just pointing out the quirk in how within the state there will be differentiation in how some Cajun names are pronounced, but not others (even Guillots and Champagnes seem to often go along with and often adopt their "city" pronunciations themselves). Elsewhere, they will butcher all of them equally.

Not just pronouncing it either. Spelling it is a chore. I’m a NSU alum and I still have to look up the spelling.

It doesn't help that Nacogdoches, TX is just a hundred miles away.
