I would argue that the initial threat was on his daughter's well being, and therefore makes the man's actions defined as a REaction. But not an illegal one. A reaction meaning it's not aggravated assault since it is more of a defense to a situation,

Not even close. Threat? That's funny, unless you're a feminist who believes all sex is rape. There is no threat to the daughter, none. The father over reacted and used the gun as an implied threat. He is defending nothing except in the mind of someone who is willing to go to ridiculous lengths to rationalize his buffoonish actions.

I own several guns and would never have that sort of talk with my daughter's date with one in plain sight. Sorry, that's stupid.

Why? Was she being raped? Was she there against her will?

Well if the gun as in his waistband, it's not brandishing so while dumb it's not

It is brandishing once you make it known by pulling back a shirt or jacket or placing your hand upon it.

well, if he is letting his duaghter date a drug dealer he already swung and missed

It is a known teenager, a teenager he already allowed his daughter to go out with. Now he decides he is in danger and needs to go packing?

No way. In his stupid mind he thought this would be cool. In reality he was threatening a kid he knows for going something he knew would happen.

quote:

reality, he was reacting to a serious potential financial and health risk of his daughter to a kid that is too young to handle the responsibility. He's protecting his own
by killing a kid and going to jail?

LOL. Maybe in your America.

In reality, he was reacting to a serious potential financial and health risk of his daughter to a kid that is too young to handle the responsibility. He's protecting his own.

Again, not the approach id take, but let's not demonize a guy without all of the facts.

Example: is the kid a drug dealer? Probably not, but we don't know.

Example 2: has the dad been on record with this type of behavior before?

Example 3: was he calm whem he was speaking to the kid or not?

And even if all of those examples (among a litany of other potential examples) pointing in the kid's favor, a law abiding citizen / good man has every right to scare the daylights out of horrible decision making of his daughter and her would be suitors.

Again, I think this will only make things worse for him in the future, and is certainly not the method I'd take myself. But there's a lot at stake for bad decisions made by the daughter.

You're just wrong, it's not up for debate. If he has a gun in his waistband where the kid can see it the chances are way higher that it's against the law than it's not.

That's before getting into the complete dumbassness of doing that to a kid when you're a grown arse man.

Probably taught his daughter a valuable lesson. She’ll be more careful next week when she starts having sex with the kid just to get back at her overbearing father.

THIS

I have a daughter. I have thought about this many times.

That approach is NOT one I will be taking.

Stupid to do, but

quote:

in his waistband where the kid can see it the chances are way higher that it's against the law then it's not.

How is that illegal, open carry is legal in public and damn sure okay at your own residence, he pulls it out different story

It's already been discussed, but if the gun is visible and he's telling the kid he better not do this and that it's going to be perceived as a threat. The perception of threat is assault, add this is with it being a kid and a judge would no doubt screw this guy.

Just because you're on your property doesn't mean you can break laws.

Now instead of a parking lot they are going to go somewhere even more secluded and dangerous.

Would have been hilarious if the kid would have said what are you gonna do shoot me and laughed.

As many others have said the BIL sounds like a douche and his daughter is going to hate him (probably already does) and more than likely is giving the bf some "sorry about my dad" sex already.

Out of curiosity, for any guy questioning the legality, or the BIL's right to show off his gun stuck in the waistband of his cut-off sweatpants,or whatever fashion statement he tried to make. If that had been 16 year old, pubescent you, what would YOU have felt like having some stupid redneck chewing your arse out in the driveway?

Would you have gone on home thinking, "oh well, he had the right to scare the shite out of me." As far as I've read, we STILL don't even know if they were doing more than innocent, normal 16 year old making out. Sheesh!

I don’t get the downvotes. A scary talking to is appropriate without more.
