A friend of mine, who is now married to his HS sweetheart. When he took her on her first date, when he went pick her up, her dad told him "follow me". He brought him into his shop, had his guns laid out as if he had been cleaning them and told my friend "I know how teenage boys think. You better have her home at midnight and if you do anything to her, I will not be scared to use one of them" and looked at his guns.
Her dad was a complete dick to my friend for years and they have never been on good terms. While it might be funny to frick with teenage boys, be careful how you go about it, you could do more harm, long term, than anything.

He was driving home from dinner and saw the kid's very obvious type car parked in the back end of an empty parking lot....rolled up on them without getting out and pulled off then called her and told Jr. to bring her home so they could talk.

You need more than an implication to meet the standard for assault. It has to be a threat by overt statement or action. By your definition I'd get arrested every day merely talking to people while on the job
As a law enforcement officer of over 2 decades experience, I would never arrest for merely having a holstered gun in his waistband without overt threat. Poor parenting? Yes. Illegal? No.

La. is an open carry state and there is nothing illegal about having a piston tucked into your belt on your own property.
Now, I don't know what BIL said to the boy but yes, there are problems if what he said amounted to a threat in the legal sense.

Dumb arse. I have 2 daughters but I also realize that almost all 16yr olds do that and he's not going to stop it. Unless the guy was 35 that's ridiculous to threaten the kid with a gun.
