My batshit crazy friend is flying to Poland to fight with the Ukrainians

Told us today and sent screenshots of his flights. Not enlisting or anything, just simply headed out there on a whim.
Not sure how I feel about this one. I guess if anything he’s walking the walk instead of virtue signaling on social media with everyone else. But he’s definitely out of his mind nuts.

Should be prepared when the Poland customs agent asks:
1. Are you carrying anything of value 10k USD or greater?
2. Do you have any agricultural goods with you?

It's not surprising IMO
Guys in our society/culture crave adventure and being part of something they feel is clear cut and meaningful. It's why so many are drawn to WWII, which in the minds of many was the last objectively good vs. bad conflict.
You could enlist and wait for the next inevitable US quagmire, or you can go get a rifle and defend a European city against Russian invaders. I'm not saying it's a reasonable choice, but I get the appeal. I'm sure it's part glory hunting, but I think more than that it's a desire to bear witness and take a role in something of historic significance during an era of where most things are stupid and fleeting.
