Looks like Chief Broome ... errr ... Paul is dishing out some political payback.

No justice. No peace.

The head of Baton Rouge police union has been placed under internal investigation and faces possible discipline for his actions the night of the 2016 Alton Sterling shooting.

The union president, Sgt. C. Bryan Taylor, said Police Chief Murphy Paul issued a "predisciplinary letter" last week accusing Taylor of violating a department protocol that requires officers involved in a shooting be separated from each other. That requirement is intended to preserve the integrity of an investigation and to prevent officers from colluding on a version of events before they have been interviewed by the department.

The investigation is the latest sign of strife between the police union and Paul. Taylor, who has consistently butted heads with the new chief, is accused of failing to "carry out orders" after responding to the Sterling scene.

In a telephone interview Tuesday, Taylor described the internal inquiry as political payback for the police union's criticism of Paul after the chief fired Blane Salamoni, the officer who fatally shot Sterling outside the Triple S Food Mart. Paul also suspended Howie Lake II, the second officer involved in the deadly encounter with Sterling.

Taylor said he had been off duty and responded to the scene of the shooting only as a union representative. He said there were a number of other supervisors on scene tasked with separating Salamoni and Lake.

"Sometimes, when you stand up for what’s right, and what you were elected to do, there's retribution," Taylor said, adding he intends to fight the allegation when he appears before the chief at a predisciplinary hearing in July. "I clearly was not the supervisor on scene that night. Obviously this is an attack on me, for one reason or another."

"Out of all the supervisors on scene that night, I'm the one being investigated," Taylor added. "At no time did I control that scene."

quote:

The development came just days after Taylor was transferred from his role as commander of the department's intelligence division to patrol — a significant demotion that Taylor says has not been explained to him.

quote:

Asked Tuesday whether Paul has the support of rank and file officers, Taylor said, "Overall, I would say no." But he dismissed rumors circulating within the department about planned "sick-outs," in which officers had discussed calling in sick en masse to protest Salamoni's firing.

"The men and women of the Baton Rouge Police Department, especially union members, will not punish the community for the actions of politicians," Taylor said.

He'll piss all over anyone if it means a buck for him. If he had any integrity he wouldn't have accepted a hatchet job, from that POS mayor, in the first place.

Seems to me like this is political payback. If its not, I guess its no different than any other person getting there own people in place.

Happens all the time in sports and other companies. Hell any time our company has purchased another, there always seems to higher ranking employees that are moved to another position/demoted. I guess we will see in time but it doesnt look like the latter.

None of this should be too surprising. I think its a safe assumption that Paul was only getting that job if he agreed to fire Salamoni. I'm sure that was the case for any of the candidates.

100%. I think this will be why Salamoni will win a civil case against BR, BRPD, Broome and Paul. I don't think they were smart enough or had the foresight enough to cover their tracks and it will all come out in trial.

The sad thing is Dabadie showed future chiefs that, although they are appointed, they can run things how they see fit. Paul is a politicians puppet and his rank and file cannot have much respect for him at this point.

Sad part is, her voting base couldn't care less if this is the case. They will still vote for her after costing the taxpayers millions. I would say almost 0% chance she doesn't win re-election twice.

The difference is those companies/teams aren't tasked with public safety of an entire city. Think about how ridiculous this is. You have a mayor and her puppet Chief at war with their own police force because a criminal who was resisting arrest while armed with a gun was killed. She and her chief are expressly stating they are taking the criminal's side over the police. While no one thinks any police force is perfect, what message does this send to the people employed to protect the citizens of this city? Why would anyone want to be a BR policeman and risk their lives to protect a city whose leadership clearly doesn't support them? Any rational person would say "frick it. I'm done", leaving BR with a smaller and worse police force. Hell, BR is already on pace to pass last year's record for murders in 2018.

I normally don't side with Police union's on most issues, but this is some straight up railroading BS.

Don't forget the 2017 record, that we are on pace to beat this year, was the all-time record for murders in EBR.

I'm beginning to wonder if the working plan is simply to crash the department and rebuild it in the Broome/Chambers design. This is a dangerous game she is playing.

Crime is increasing. Lower level stats may seem stagnant, but when murder and shootings skyrocket, people stop calling, and police may not offer much for small things.
