But it’s diet. You don’t have to go to the gym or do extensive cardio to lose weight. Like someone said, the average first world person wasn’t as heavy even 30 years ago as the average first world person is now. And it’s not like they worked out way more.

Well. More lifestyle than diet, but generally yes. People eat way too much fricking food in this country. It’s disgusting. Calculate your maintenance kcal requirements in regards to your activity level, and most people in this fat country should never be eating more than about 2000 if you’re a male. Unless you’re an athlete, training for strength/size and need those extra kcal, pay attn to fricking serving sizes and eat a good mix of fruit, veggies, protein, and complex cards. It’s not that hard.

The only acceptable caveat is thyroid disorders and depression pills that can make you explode in size. That’s not the average American though.

See, that's just not true.

Some people are naturally going to get fat and there's nothing they can do about it and some aren't.

Rule of thumb goes for guys just like it goes for women. If you have thick ankles, wrists, knees and other joints -- they are load bearing. You're eventually going to get fat no matter what

That applies to a very small portion of the population. Most people cannot blame genetics for being extremely overweight.

That’s BS. For the vast majority of people, if you consume less calories than you use up in a day, you’re going to lose weight.

Again people that have that mindset that you do only contribute to the obesity epidemic.

Right, and part of burning calories is your natural metabolism, which lessens as you age

Many are ignorant about how many calories are actually burned when working out. They have no idea so they think that because they work up a sweat and breathe hard that they must be burning tons of calories. I used to think this.

The key is getting to a point where even when you do "cheat" with your diet it feels like shite after. Ate fried chicken for the first time in months last weekend and I felt like absolute crap the rest of the night. Would rather eat blander food and feel better than stuff my face full of fried crap.

Yes but it doesn’t lessen to the extent some people think it does. The rate it goes down is still small enough that the calories in, calories out still applies albeit it is noticeably harder.

I work out 4x a week, but because I enjoy it. I used to play sports, and it's fun to still be athletic and strong.

Most of weight is diet. I've been heavier, and I feel much better when I'm healthy.

You don't have to obsess over a six pack to be healthy and strong. I don't know why anyone's goal wouldn't generally be good health.

If you're making life choices based off some study, that's silly, and it doesn't matter if the study prefers dad bod or a six pack.

This is not really true. Studies show that your metabolism only declines about 5% over a lifetime. Most people just become more and more sedentary and eat more as they age.

Do they have a choice, this country is fat as frick and getting fatter

When 80% of people are fat as frick... slightly less fat as frick starts to become a lot more desirable
