Does MS have some incentive for or very inexpensive add on fees for personalized tags
I can explain. Mississippi includes an advelorem tax element to the price of car tags. As a result, the price of a car tag on a decent new car can sometimes be over $1000 per year. The custom tag fee is a $53 adder.
When you are paying over $1000, an extra $53 is not much by comparison.

You've obviously never been to Virginia
Virginia started personalized plates way back in the 80s, and they only cost like $10 extra. I want to say it was a one time charge, not annual fee. I believe other states at the time were charging up to $50/ year.
Henceforth, a lot of personalized plates showed up in Virginia.
Still have the same boring blue letter/ white background plates they've used for at least 50 years.

Virginia has the most. Only costs $10. I think VA invented them.
I’m surprised that their batshit governor hasn’t determined that they offend trans people somehow and done away with them.

I've always heard specialty/personalized tags were $60 more in the 'Sip, but folks are probably just rounding up when they say that.

The incentive is the first $39 of the $53 goes to the family of an officer who died in the line of duty...

Not sure. But I have learned MS license plate fees are pretty crazy.

Let me tell you about a place called Virginia
We already know about it and avoid it like the plague.

they must be cheap in Mississippi.
Compared to how much the car tags cost in MS, they are cheap. I think they are $30-50, which is minuscule compared to the overall price of a car tag there. Base privilege amd registration are about $30. Then add on the ad valorem portion, and car tags can cost upwards of $1000 per year for a vehicle worth $60k, depending on which county/municipality they live in.

Yeah my moms Tahoe tag was like $1300 .. and it only goes down maybe $100 a year if that
I just bought a car in Arkansas and they said my tag was gonna be $2000. I thought I was gonna faint. I said every year? $2,000?! Wtf
They said oh it’s only $25 every year after for renewal

I think the black MS plates with white lettering looks cool. Florida has them too with school logos that also looks cool. Wish we had that in LA.

When the black ones first came out they were only offered for personalized so I think a lot of people got them then they were so popular they made them avail use regular too
When they started taking off and were only personalized.. I briefly thought about getting a personalized one with the numbering similar to what the county would give you.. just to confuse the hell out of people. Glad I didn't when they no longer required them to be personalized.

Montana literally has 325 different designs. This doesn't include personalized plates. Give Mississippi a break.

Nope, I just renewed my LSU truck tag and it is still $53 dollars extra. About $35 of that actually goes to the LSU scholarship fund.

The rest is split between Tater Tot and Brett Favre.

I'm pretty sure we did this EXACT thread a month or two ago.
