“a lost generation,” having entered the labor force during the Great Recession in 2008 and now facing a second “once-in-a-lifetime downturn.”
It’s not that bad.

Millennials, Lowrey argues, have never really had any economic security, and this pandemic all but guarantees “that they will be the first generation in modern American history to end up poorer than their parents.”
I’m a Millennial. I see what my fellow Millennials spend their money on. They’re just stupid with money.

I love how millennials all talk about getting screwed.
My great-grandmother grew up in the depression and fought ww2, never bitched about how unfair it was...

Hoarding cash for 10+ years years in order to buy a 20% dip from ATHs is definitely not efficient or smart. The big dip from this brought us to January 2017 levels. You missed out on 8+ years of gains and 10+ years of dividends.
To date I've already made 25% of my investment and the economy hasn't even opened up. If they return to pre-virus levels I'll have made 110% profit. For ten years the money has been a cash safety net for my family. Its served it purpose and now we are able to have a safety net and leverage funds.

is this what we are calling it now?
"Great Recession" doesn't hold a candle to what our parent's parents went thru with the Great Depression and it feels disingenuous to almost mimic the naming convention. IMO.
This seems like a dramatic representation compared to what i remember taking place in 2008. I graduated from college that year and still landed a full time job. Maybe don't get a bull shite degree?
This is very stupid. You should be embarrassed

I am a Gen Xer that is retired at 45 years old. I do believe that the Millennial generation will go down as the generation that was born into the worst situations possible in the history of mankind.
It has to be so, I read about it at least once a week.

Not to mention the crippling governmental debt being passed on to them.

Uh, we have a recession on average every 15 years or so. This isnt some new phenomenon
Millennials acting like victims
Boomers bailed themselves out on the backs of younger generations in 2008. They werent forced to sell assets they accrued with irresponsible behavior and voting practices to pay their bills. Banks failing would have hit THEM the hardest.
Now we have to destroy a record economy just to buy them a few more years

I read a stat last week that said as of that time, for every one CV19 death that 750 people had lost a job
those 750 unemployed should feel fortunate that they were forced to take this pandemic so seriously. There are others who haven't and are still outside and going to the store. Without a mask. And buying nonessential items.

One poll found 52 percent of Americans under the age of 45 have either lost their job, been put on leave, or had their hours dramatically cut as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, compared to 26 percent of people over the age of 45.
What percentage of the American workforce is under 45 compared to over 45? That might explain why most of the people affected are under 45.

Yeah, I posted this earlier in the thread:
quote:
In other news, only 51% of people over the age of 45 are employed to begin with vs. 75% ages 18-44.
That means that 39% of employed voters under the age of 45 have either lost their job, been put on leave, or had their hours dramatically cut as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, compared to 51% of employed voters over the age of 45.
Misleading poll is misleading.

If millennials get to experience the same postwar boom as your grandparents they probably won't complain either.
