33 so not the demographic asked. But I don’t nap. Can’t even nap when I’m sick. Had the flu and I’m pretty sure my inability to nap is what kept me sick for longer.

Im not quite 50 yet, and im kinda the same in that i usually cant ever nap .. *except* when im sick.. probably b/c the first thing i do if i feel something coming on is i cut out coffee, which tends to make me sleep off and on throughout the day.. and yeah, i find i usually get over any sicknesses pretty quick .. sleep is so damn underrated .

Even as a kid I couldn’t nap. If I fell asleep during the day I’d be out for minimum 4 hours.

That’s a nap.. a long nap, but still a nap .

It’s the dumbest fricking line of thinking. As someone who wakes up at 5. I don’t think I’ve ever cared when someone else woke up.

I’m always up before my wife. The only time I ever wake her up is if she’s gonna be late for something. Even then it’s gentle.

When we have children they can sleep as late as they want. They are kids.

I'm not even 40 and I enjoy taking a little nappy nap here and there, especially if I was out late the night before.

Don't ever underestimate the power of a nap when you reach 50 and over. One of the great joys of life. My fly fishing mentor was ten years older than me. Once he reached 50 I might look at him while I was wading in moving water and see him taking a nap on a big rock at the edge of a river. I wondered how he could do that especially if the trout were really active ( you know how trout can be so off and on). Now that I am on older than that, I understand perfectly. Also he taught me to bring a stellar lunch and not just a piece of cheese between two pieces of white bread. Savor the moments particularly if it was about lunch ( even if the trout were going gangbusters).
Having said this, once the nap is done, get back out there. As Dylan Thomas wrote, "Do not go gentle into that good night."

Sleep as much as your body tells you to sleep. If it doesn’t tell you to sleep, then don’t. If it tells you to sleep 3 hours, then do it.

I avoid naps because of that reason. About the only time I nap on purpose is if I’m at my GFs and she want to nap. Because sometimes a nap doesn’t always mean nap, at least right away.

It's rare, and always follows some event on Friday night that may have involved bourbon, then getting up at 4:30 for hunting.

Naps are the reward for making it to 70. I didn't start taking intentional naps until about 3 years ago, an accident kept me immobile for 6 months, so why not. Now naps are sacrosanct in our home, "I need a nap" overrides all other duties and obligations.

I love the term "POWER NAP", as if something is being accomplished.

I take a 2 hr nap about 2x/month and usually on either a Saturday or Sunday early afternoon.

I often go to bed a little later those days and sleep fine. Maybe due to often being busy on those days.

The comedian Sebastian Maniscalco has a great bit where, i guess he’s friends irl with the former Houston Texans player JJ Watt, and Maniscalco says he was staying at Watt’s house one time when he was doing a show in Houston- and Watt says “Ok, well now i gotta go take a PERFORMANCE NAP.. Then Sebastian goes on about that whole concept of a ‘performance nap’.. i cant remember exactly how the bit went beyond that, but honestly it makes sense that a good nap would help you perform in sports or any other capacity .

I'm physically unable to do this now. I can't sleep past 6:30 am or go to sleep prior to 9 pm. Its a curse.

This is me. I listen to my body and if it says I need to take 10-20 min power nap, I do. Keeps me sharp and refreshed and I have zero issues going to be at night.

Don't sleep for 2 hrs midday OP. That's your problem

Naps are awesome but yes if I take just a 15 minute nap, I am not sleepy at my normal bedtime. True double edged sword.

I generally do. Typically after my long run or a big lunch. Lay down, go to sleep, wake up when I wake up. Never any troubles sleeping that night.

Men over 50, how often do you intentionally take a nap on the weekends?

Not falling asleep accidentally while watching the tv. I'm talking go get on the couch or in the bed and nap for a period of time.

After taking a 2 hour nap the past 2 Sundays, I found that I've had difficulty falling asleep at bedtime.

50 here. Drank a good bit and stayed up til 1am with the late kickoff but still made it to go exercise with my son on Sunday at 7am and to church for 930.

I took a nap about 1230-130pm during the Saints game.

I got in bed by 915pm couldn't fall asleep until 1030 last night.

So I'd say I confirm this.

a nap should be 20 min tops not 2 hours

yep. 10-15 after lunch means a great afternoon and decent sleep at night. Been doing it since college. At one point when I had an office downtown in a very big city I'd go find a hotel and a newspaper and take a snooze in the lobby with the paper over my face.
