Anyone who has been in a fraternity knows you are not forced to do shite. Peer pressured like mf’er, yes. All you have to do is get up and leave.

Remember, it's cool to sue Remington for school shootings.

Oh no I’m just making a point that they sentenced this guy with a pretty lenient sentence considering he was involved with an incident where a young man died. Added with the high profile coverage. Just noting they punished him similar to if he had walked around with a couple pain pills in his pocket.

explain this use of force.

Not too much different than coercing someone to commit suicide. Did they kill them? Not directly. Did they have a serious impact on whether the person lived or died? Absolutely. That's a crime and it deserves to be punished.

I just dont know how in this case we can say this

His dorm roommate said he saw Gruver completely drugged up and on alcohol for all 10 days they lived together. The dude was a complete mess on his own

That would be the same thing he is trying to argue with the alcohol company. Suing the gun company or alcohol company is absolutely absurd, but they are both inanimate objects. Naquin should have known better, rather he wanted Max out of the fraternity or not, that anyone drinking that much is going to a hospital one way or another.

What specifically did this guy do that other fraternity brothers did not do? Is he the only one facing charges.

quote:

pledges were required to chug hard liquor if they wrongly answered questions about the fraternity.

Ultimately, the pledge chooses to chug or not to chug. I would have a hard time as a jury member convicting a kid for hosting a game or applying a little peer pressure. Was force involved?

Not according to your logic train

If alcohol wasnt made, would Gruver have died from alcohol? Hard to argue they arent "partially" responsible

He was just found guilty of committing homicide of the pledge. Sounds like he got it right there

Here's another example for you...drug dealer sells drugs and gets caught. He gets charged with distribution of a controlled substance.

Drug dealer sells drugs and junkie overdoses and dies, he slammed with a manslaughter or homicide charge.

quote:

PORTLAND, Ore. — Joseph Richard Caruso, 34, a prolific darknet narcotics vendor residing in Lake Oswego, Oregon, was sentenced today to 87 months in federal prison and three years’ supervised release for illegally distributing fentanyl that was linked to a 2017 fatal overdose in Wisconsin.

This is not uncommon and there are lots of laws on the books for just this type of situation.

Why didn’t Max just not drink that much?

Still an inanimate object. A gun nor alcohol have consciousness to make decisions. I am agreeing with you that this is more so Max's fault than Naquin's, but to argue he had no fault is incorrect. If you want to play the straw man of the alcohol or gun, you can argue God is at fault for everything. I get you are saying where is the line, but it's impossible to argue Naquin didn't play a major role in Max's death.

Yeah when you kill someone, that just adds to the fun of a party, right?

We need to do more of this and make frat life really great.

Yea, this is a bit much.

I think the dude, RIP, that was doing the drinking needs to be accountable for himself. Unless he was literally forced, he wasn't, it's tough to hold other accountable, basically others should know his tolerance and he has no responsibility for his own tolerance.

2 and a half years were suspended.

He will be parole eligible after 7 and a half months and will likely be release at that time.

Eta: he will likely post an appellate bond and be released pending his appeals. If that happens he wont start serving his sentence for some time.
