So, with good behavior, spending a total of a year in jail after inadvertently killing someone is "getting fricked"?
The kid chose to do drugs and alcohol on his own multiple times, outside of fraternity events. His roomate told the court this
Are his parents "inadvertently" responsible since they didnt raise him well? I just cant side with this court decision. Its ridiculous to me

He was tied down and his mouth was forced open?

Nobody forced it down his throat. Nobody forced him to stay in the house.

Exactly
There is no doubt the actions of others contributed to Gruver’s death. That’s what the punishment is for.
As far as Gruver being responsible for his own actions I believe he has paid that price.

Obviously, Max should have known his limit, nutted up and refused to chug the liquor. But in saying that, partial fault still lies on Naquin for continuing to pressure Max into drinking more and more until he died.

Naquin seems like a complete tool and does shoulder some blame....5 years seems pretty heavy handed though

I agree. Naquin is partially to blame, but at some point personal accountability has to come into play. 18 is old enough to say frick it it's not worth it. Peer pressure is not "forcing someone" to do something.

Does partial responsibility not lie with alcohol companies for making alcohol in general? Does partial responsibility not lie with movie makers for making hard partying and hazing look fun? etc etc

Interesting responses in this thread vs the thread about the girl that pressured her boyfriend to commit suicide.
Same arguments could be made either way. Did the fratstar force the pledge to kill himself? Did the girl force her boyfriend to kill himself.
Seems like, according to the OT, its cool for fratstars to pressure people into doing very dangerous things, but not women.

The law should not get into the business of basically making "being a bitch/a-hole" illegal

It’s amazing to me people can’t comprehend that blame isn’t black and white. Arguing the percentage of responsibility on several parties is understandable but there is plenty of blame to be spread out on everyone including some with the victim. That’s the reason this guy got basically a slap on the wrist when someone ended up dead. I personally got the same exact sentence from a judge for having a small amount of personal narcotics in my pocket.

This was a witchhunt from day one. Shitty situation for all involved but you could tell that they were prepping to find a person to be the scapegoat and shoulder the blame and it was Naquin. All this does is have everyone believe that LSU did everything to stop hazing so the blame would not be on LSU when lawsuit time comes.

I would love to know if the rumors are true that Gruver was essentially forced on Phi Delt after not receiving any bids.

You have partial faults in court cases, admittedly usually car accidents. It's up to the courts to determine that fault.
Naquin did have a direct impact on Max's death and should not be allowed to just walk free for his role in it.

They would make sense with how he was seemingly picked on during pledge-ship
