That's an appropriate sentence. Good luck to him and hope he rise above this.

I guess the sycophants saying Naquin did nothing wrong thinks this girl was innocent as well. Naquin wasnot sentenced for murder but for a law that said he was culpable in part.

Wait, so there are people who were saying she should burn at the stake but this guy is blameless?

I'm a mom of 3 kids and while I feel completely awful for Gruver's parents/family/friends, at what point does personal responsibility come into play? Would I say this if it was MY kid? Who knows for sure but I would hope that I would.

1. I'm am idiot.
2. Yes, there are quite a few posters on here who think her conviction/sentence is a huge government overreach.

Of course not

What if it was water that he was forced to drink to intoxication levels that would kill him? Would this be looked at differently?

I don’t know man, forcing someone to drink themselves to death for “brotherhood” seems a little more fricked.
Not saying the guy wasn’t a total a-hole, but let’s not pretend like the pledges are there against their will.

Pussification continues, no self accountability, always someone else’s fault. Half my frat would/(should?) be in prison in today’s world.

It's really hard to get the anus to relax enough to get the tube up there.

Is there really no personal responsibility here?

Ultimately, the pledge chooses to chug or not to chug. I would have a hard time as a jury member convicting a kid for hosting a game or applying a little peer pressure. Was force involved?
The thing is a jury did find him guilty and they had all the evidence to convict the young man. Few if any of us here were at the trial. None of us really know the whole story.

He was tied down and his mouth was forced open?
Tying someone down and forcing alcohol down their throat is probably 2nd degree murder, and arguably 1st degree murder (ritualistic). I promise you he'd be looking at 20 years to life if they did that... not 5 years.
Here's what Frat Star was convicted of (Louisiana Criminal Law):
Negligent Homicide: the killing of a human being by criminal negligence.
Criminal Negligence: Criminal negligence exists when, although neither specific nor general criminal intent is present, there is such disregard of the interests of others that the offender's conduct amounts to a gross deviation below the standard of care expected to be maintained by a reasonably careful man under like circumstances.
Translation: You acted like an a-hole and got someone killed. Yes, that is a crime.

I said the same thing after they placed charges on this guy. I was downvoted to hell and back for saying so.
