Depends on the commitment, and other rights lost. Do they lose their right to vote for a time period as well? If that's a no, than sorry non-starter. I truly do understand that the mentally ill at times need to be forcibly detained, but deprivation of rights by a government is something that should be locked behind judges at the absolute least.
Absolutely crazy this dude was mentally ill enough to do these acts, yet still had enough sense to create an escape plan.

It’s okay, I’m sure having another law will totally make criminals stop and think “wait, this is illegal, maybe I should stop”
As someone who was home during a home invasion which subsequently took cops hours to respond to, I’m good, bruh.
I’d rather have the ability to protect myself than depend on the police when the police aren’t there and won’t be there for god knows how long.

See the issue is you have no problem impacting law abiding citizens constitutional rights but won’t discuss the real issue. Guns are inanimate objects. Just like a car is and we don’t limit cars when a person commits a DUI murder. We go after the human and hold them accountable. Yet you want to limit the “type of guns that CONTINUE to be used in successful mass shootings”. While I would prefer ro address the mental health aspect which plague the nation.
