I like that "conservatives" have jumped the shark to the point that fiscal responsibility is now "liberal".

She will need the same tax payer funded healthcare outside the prison.

Medical care for prisoners comes directly from the state budget. It also tends to be more expensive because of the threat of lawsuits if access is restricted. A former prisoner out on Medicaid is not only cheaper on average, but also a joint state/federal problem. Massive burden shift off of the state budget.

She's done her time. She was brainwashed by a cult leader. Not unlike those who got brainwashed and stormed the capitol. Some people are simple minded and easily manipulated. We've seen it throughout history and continue to see it today.

But if I was related to the victim she would not last a week and when the cops came for me:

Nah, she’s too old for Roman Polanski to rape now.

Given the number of times I have heard or read similar sentiments and the extreme rarity of it actually happening it is pretty easy to conclude 99.99% of people are full of shite when they utter it. This is why Gary Planche's story is well known, he was the exception, not the rule.

It seems like she did a lot of good in prison. After all these years, I’m not opposed to her getting released to enjoy her final years of life.

Stabbing someone 14 times is either personal or straight up crazy… how she is even up for parole is a surprise to me.

She has? She's made her victims whole?

I hope she gets run over by a bus.

I wouldn't call CHAOS fantastic, but certainly brings up some interesting possibilities. Good enough read.

Absolutely no remorse during trial.

She stabbed Rosemary LaBianca 14 times.
BTW this was the day after the Sharon Tate killings. Van Houten knew about those murders and knew they were going that night to kill the LaBiancas.

She was young and dumb

Jumping off your roof into a pool is what you do when you're young and dumb.

Slaughtering two innocent people in their home is what soulless animals do.

She should have been put down decades ago.

I'm not saying I agree with her release but can yall imagine how hard life is going to be for her out in thr world now? Everyone knows that case so there is no running.

I cannot fathom being 73 years old and for the first time hold a cell phone. This world is going to be completely new and she isn't going to get much help.

She will be a superstar among aging hippies. The podcast circuit will keep her busy

Manson himself used the term Helter Skelter for a chaos he was trying to create.

She is 73 so that would have made her what? 29? She was old enough to not be a naïve teenager or even early 20s. I know a cult leader has a lot of power over the people who follow them, but I don't see a reason to let her out.

I don't know if this is a thing, but I would imagine having to adapt to the outside world will take a toll on her. A lot has changed since 1971 when she went to jail and being institutionalized for that long, she will never completely adapt. Either way, frick her.
