I’ll still go to the mall if I need to. Not to down play what happen this week by any means but this event could have happened anywhere in BR festivals, Perkins Rowe, movie theater, etc.

If I want to go to a mall, I would just drive to Lakeside in Metairie. And we mostly go there for the kids to see the Lego store.

There is no benefit of going to the mall that overcomes the risk and the perception of risk.
Order stuff online from vendors that offer free returns.
Eat better food than food court food.

I don't go often but I'm going to keep going. No fricking lowlife is going to decide where I can and can't go.

I have a teenager. I was already not loving the place having taken her before she could drive. Obviously a culture daycare. Now, I’ve told her it’s a no go zone. She’s fine with that because they all get the news too amongst themselves.

Convert it into luxury condos.

Would you let your kids go? Isn’t your job to protect them? Sometimes It’s not just about you.

Only went few times a year for the aquarium but it’s been a ghetto shithole for a while now

When psychopaths shoot each other in nice parts of town, I’d say the city isn’t safe.

I’m m not bringing my children anywhere near that food court or mall again. We have been going to mandeville and Covington lately to shop and it is nice not seeing a whole lot of culture there. Well worth it to travel and enjoy a moment of peace without the breed of peace

It didn't need to be like this. The decision not to proactively police made/makes armed criminals feel comfortable loitering, menacing, stealing, takeovers, etc. MOL needs to do like JPSO and Oakwood in Gretna and put a police substation in the mall, but that won't do anything if police aren't allowed/encouraged to be proactive. What is proactive? Terry stops. Groups of several 20-something year old men walking around, not shopping, making people get out of their way, giving people hard looks, etc....stop and frisk.
This is BR, so that's not going to happen? MOL will linger on and eventually close.
After, for starters, I would like to see Ochsner build a huge fitness center like Harahan. Charge around $80/mo. Indoor/outdoor pools, steam, sauna, whirlpool, indoor track, gymnastics, weights, cardio, classes. Put a PT rehab center next to it. Absolutely, no apartment complexes, but some high-end condos would be good (afterall it's near BR General and OLOL).

Reduce it to 2 entrances and put up metal detectors. The city is safe but has psychopaths that now prefer to drive down to the nice parts of town to shoot each other.
That's how the Philippines does at some of their malls. Metal detectors, security /law enforcement at all entrances. They check all bags, purses, backpacks and people with metal wands.

We live in BR and go to the mall probably once every few months for the aquarium or food court/shopping.
We won’t be going back

I used to let my wife go M-T, open - 2:30.
Never again.

This wasn't a scuffle in a parking lot
What was going on in the parking lot is why my daughter stopped going to that Mall like 6 years ago.
The Mall and BRPD have known full well what has been happening in the parking lot. No one is surprised it spilled inside.

I went to the MoLa's opening back in 1997, because I was a 16 year old girl and malls were still a "thing". It was nice, a place you could let your teenagers hang out. We didn't cause trouble, we purchased items with money we earned from our minimum wage jobs.
Baton Rouge has been declining for decades. I escaped in 2014 and live in one of the wealthiest and safest places in the US. I have been back to BTR twice, for funerals and I can't believe how the rot has spread. Growing up near Plank Rd. I am very familiar with the ghetto culture, but it was contained. The people of BTR have allowed the thugs to infiltrate the entire city.

Will never go again except for Apple store and only if I have to.
Everything else elsewhere or online.
Course I’ve been doing this for years. Mall turned into a shite hole long ago.
