shite, I guess they'd have sent my arse to LSU-E if that was the requirements 25 years ago. I only had around a 3.3 GPA and 27 ACT

Not really. They deemphasized test scores for favor of a more holistic evaluation. This looks to reverse that.

I like the idea of the process flow being like this:
1. Apply to LSU
2. Not good enough for LSU BR, but not not far off, so we'll admit you to a satellite campus
3. If you achieve 3.5 or higher in a pre-selected curriculum freshman year at satellite campus, you can transfer to LSU BR.
Note: That curriculum is the core shite - Math, English, Science, Accounting, etc. and is the same curriculum at all satellite campuses and it isn't easy and in-person attendance is mandatory. Truancy results in a fail.

I think it used to be more so a job readiness program, but it was for high level jobs and very specialized. You went to college to study to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc.
Now it's "check the box" and good luck in some random career you have no plan for most kids.

It may be too late unless for 2027 incoming freshman they start awarding scholarships mainly based on GPA with standardized non-super scores used to validate the GPA and the differing rigor between schools and school districts of the applicants and also do away with the holistic approach and holistic admissions committee using GPA and standardized tests like above as the most weighted criteria of admissions in general. Make these the actual board approved standards and not just giving lip service to goals they hope to see in future students due to knowledge of what the demographics on campus on currently trending if not actually becoming.
LSU under Tate quickly pushed demographic changes and with this fall class basically being Tate’s last the shift may not be repairable even with less racist or inflated GPA scholarship decisions in the future. White undergraduates on campus will become a plurality after 2027’s class and very possibly after this fall’s class due to its size and being Tate’s. It definitely will not swing the other way if this is just lip service about a goal while keeping a committee that still gets to push holistic decisions to keep Tate’s shift.

Now, its purpose is largely irrelevant as far as job readiness outside of those listed careers and it really only functions as a weed out program for those.
For the vast majority, universities are merely a moneymaking industry developed to put millions into debt at 18 years old and to let young adults party together for 4 years.
