I just looked it up
LSUs freshman class of 2025 set the record for most incoming students with over a 30 on the ACT
So nothing about the OP really makes sense
LSU have never before had more top students based on standardized testing.

The problem isn't those students, it's the large number that submitted no ACT at all.

Until very recent times lsu was a school where simply graduating high school meant you got accepted

Oh, I agree that standards have always been mid, but when I started in 1995, we most definitely had to submit ACT or SAT.

You had to submit it and the score didn’t matter at all, they were simply tracking it
A 2.3 and 15 ACT would have got you in in 1995
It wasn’t until 2000 where a minimum ACT score was required

Probably so, but an 18 at least means you have a few brain cells to rub together. The ACT is a straight skills test, so an average ACT with a low GPA is much better than the reverse. There are some really, really crappy high schools out there.

My only point is if you truly want lsu to require a good ACT score, you aren’t going back to “how it was” or the “glory years”, you are going to a place it’s never been

Was that a flat number or a % of enrollee who submitted scores? Is that based on Super Scores compared to true composite scores in years before 2023?

Can you post a link? LSU has been reporting Super Scores as the composite score since 2023.

And when I went in 2007, I had tons of peers at BrM who did not get in due to GPA and or ACT score. LSU has in fact been selective before.... it just hasnt been consistent. Pount is im glad to see us moving in the right direction

I don’t think it’s hard to see LSU is bringing in a better top percentile of student than ever before. I don’t think that’s arguable
I also think it’s obvious LSUs floor is much lower than it was from 2005-2020
But the floor is in line with the rest of LSUs history outside of that one 15 year stretch
I’m fine with lsu raising the floor. But I just realize a low floor like it currently has is the standard for lsu for almost its entire history

The HS grade inflation today is ridiculous. How can the average GPA be 3.85? I can only imagine what it must be at Michigan or UNC.

Sure, and part UT's success has been wealthy alumni giving him back to the school... and the school is well run.
LSU may never reach UT's level, but increasing admission standards is step in right direction. If you can't qualify for LSU out of high school, go to another LSU system school for a year and try to get in again.

LSU should be mandatory 3.5 and 25+ in the ACT. That’s the healthy medium between too strict and being able to support the large admin bureaucracy that will absolutely suffer if strict admission standards are applied.
