I think there ought to be a collective push to have some of this money go toward grants to homeowners to retro fit and /or build to fortified standards to help mitigate damage in the event of a natural disaster. Frankly, this push should have been done after Ida when we had a surplus and people could have used the money in repairing their damaged homes to fortified standards.

Or just give me my money back and I'll work on my own home lol. Why the frick should I have to pay for someone else's home?

They should build a new stadium for Mrs. Benson. It would really stimulate the economy.

and the legislature is still pushing a gas taxes increase.

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted to hell for saying this, but this is the one tax increase I actually agree with. It’s the primary state source of highway funding and should have been indexed for inflation. Instead it has been static for 33 years while its value per mile driven (due to both inflation and fuel economy improvements) has shriveled.

If we spent the entire surplus on infrastructure the state would still have a $13+ billion backlog..

A temporary tax cut or give a refund as per one of the Atlantic coast states.
That won't work because it gives back to the electorate. Dems only take.

But…birds.

And it’s not election year. BR couldn’t give 2 shits about North La right now.

North LA got BP Oil Spill money to refurbish bridges in Monroe. There are bridges that are in need of complete replacement and repair everywhere in this state, but I’m only aware of one junction that constricts the primary east west flow of goods and materials across this country.

Let’s actually get a loop and then focus on the minor projects that, while are still important, are much less significant to the wellbeing of the state

Every frickin' dime should go back to the people who obviously overpaid in taxes.

Most of it will vaporize under the umbrella of health care assistance and welfare.

What’s left will be used on capital improvements in the middle of nowhere.

As usual.

Maybe we can give a big chunk of it to the insurance companies in hopes they will write more home owners policies with substantially higher premiums?

No it's not. It's election season and they're setting the talking points.

I'm down for spending it all on a state sponsored militia for boots on the ground in all high crime areas. While patroling the streets, they would be gathering intel on all drug/gang rings, raid homes, make arrests, and even impound chargers.

It's gonna end up in about 20-30 different politicians pockets.

Give it back to the tax payers not just tax filers, but to the actual people that they stole it from.

I really don’t disagree, especially with vehicles getting much better gas mileage than when the tax was first established. However, I want some accounting for EV drivers to “pay their fair share” before us gasoline drivers have to fork over more money.
