You are correct, it will not be reversed. The original goal of the State master plan (COAST 2050) was to acheive no net land loss by the year 2050. That was the GOAL and is unrealistic.
I wish them luck but it is a tough nut to crack
Can someone explain to me, like I am 10 yrs old, why we don't just build a South LA wide size sea wall basically E-W just below Morgan City/Houma & just let nature continue to nature?

Um there is a levee there already
As to “let nature takes its course”, the marsh south of houma is doomed if that is to be.

2 Billion to do what mother nature should be doing naturally.
The only solution that will work is to remove all the MS River levees south of Alliance.
That's the only real solution that will work. Abandon everything south of Alliance. Relocate all those people. Or build a levee around their community.
This 2B plan is a waste of money for the tiny amount of land it will create.
I know Capt. Ricks. He's a great man. I feel for him and the other fishermen. They have built up an industry over 100 years that has been able to exist because of how we did the levee network.
We need to try to help them... but we can't just dredge. Their way of living is going to have to change. It sucks but if we don't do this none of our kids will be living here.

You know what people did for thousands of years when the coastlines eroded?
Moved further inland.
Only Louisiana is dumb enough to try and fight literal acts of God.

Fed Gov won't approve spending money if the costs outweigh the benefits.
While potions of walls make sense... a wall that large doesn't make financial sense relative to the protection to life and property it would provide.

Do you actually know why we are losing marshes and coastlines in Louisiana right now? Have you ever read anything about it?

The land is sinking is one of the major reasons now.

IM would like to lease all the land around this diversion, Duck hunting will get a boost for sure.

Dredging and pumping works faster and better.. this is a money grab….

Water will always be dirty on the LA coast because the MS River is literally this nations a-hole. It’ll never look like 30A and I’m ok with that.

study a few years ago on eliminating the diversion structure at 3 rivers to allow the river to take it's natrually desired course.
As a bonus, this would probably improve water clarity at Grand Isle. Sorry TX.

no it doesnt look back at the last 20yrs of dredgin and dumping and building useless rock walls. break the levees move the people save our state. if we dont 20yrs from now we still have the same problem

Cannot wait to see these diversions in action. They offer a glimmer of hope for Louisiana's coastline. With my limited coastal engineering education, I personally believe that the positive effects of the diversions, while many years away, are underestimated or unrecognized.

We need more diversions like this to freshen up the basin. But we need to find a delicate balance where it doesn’t cost 2 billion dollars. We need projects that will take natural elevations and existing canals or bayous to distribute water. Also, no pumps maybe a low head levee to allow water to spill into the basin. And create its own network of channels.
I agree, thankfully these 2 sediment diversion projects (Mid-Barataria & Mid-Breton) are just a part of CPRA's masterplan which includes a number of other projects ranging in size & scope (marsh creation, dredging, structural improvements, etc.)
