same here

the only ones that have those vents are the brick pier and beams homes

my old arse bungalow has no such vents

under my house is insulated though, which I hope should help some

I agree. I just think about the story I saw about the 92 year old lady in Lake Charles who has been living in her car since Laura because her insurance was screwing around. No one knew about her, and she didn't make a fuss. There are lots of older people out there just like that. They won't make a fuss and no one will know to come help them before it's too late and we can't get to them.

I've come across several people in the area living in cars. The Home Depot Mexicans are living in tents just up the road from HD.

can I just wrap them with a towel? will that do anything at all?

I've heard wrapping with a towel and then soaking the towel with water right before the freeze helps. Ice in the towel acts as a insulating barrier

I have an irrational fear of there being an emergency and having no means to travel, ice, fallen trees, etc. One of the hurricanes this past summer fell about a week before my wife's due date, I loaded up a big chainsaw, extra gas, tow straps and chains in the back of my BAW250 incase we needed to get to the hospital. Hell I'll probably throw all that stuff back in the truck for the coming weather.

I tell you all that to ask this:

On a scale of 1-10 how paranoid am I to be considering adding a set of tire chains to the list of things I keep in my truck? I'm aware I'll probably never use them.

Yeah the northern half of Louisiana where God pays attention.

Gods only watching up there if there are 2 baptists in the boat. If it’s only one Baptist, god can’t see him and he is free to drink all of your beer and whiskey.

Not really. The GFS looks similar.

oh, is that all?

thats a lot of damn snow, but i would rather have 10# of snow all week than an inch of ice for 1 day.

Except that’s not snow it’s sleet and freezing rain I believe

for Shreveport, Sunday/Monday is supposed to just be snow

Wednesday looks like its going to be a mix of snow and ice

I think the main ice threat is central and south LA

Trying to figure out my pool protection in Br. Will probably just run the pump and heater while below freezing.

That’s what I always do, but if we lose power there will be tons of busted pool pipes all over the place.

I don't even bring chains when we go to west Yellowstone in January.

Just buy AT tires that are severe snow rated.

Mobile AL NWS having some fun with the forecast...

Thursday
quote:

EXTENDED TERM /Sunday Through Wednesday/...We all pretty much agree that the extended forecast is a doozy with a ton of uncertainty moving into next week leading to more than a few extra grey hairs.

Today

To this point in the forecast, confidence is rather solid in the evolution in this system. Unfortunately, confidence sinks like a submarine with a screen door.

Stay warm!

Well, I thought it was pretty obvious that if your home doesn't have vents, you don't need to worry about closing them. Lol

That said, this cold is for everyone. I'm sure there are plenty if folks who do have vents.
