What's the best thing do to if your power is out, there's too much ice on the roads, and it's 3 degrees? People might need to be prepared for that.

I bought some 1” pipe insulation and put it over 1 of my exposed spigots. I have a water line running from it that I can’t detach so the spigot cover wouldn’t work. Just another idea.

If I were going to be gone Sunday or Monday night I'd blow the lines out

If your home is not on a slab, you should have vents around the foundation. If they are open, it can allow more cold air under house and speed up freezing. Usually, they close fine, but sometimes you have one or two that get stuck.

Hopefully they have some way to light a fire or a heat source. I have a bad feeling this one is going to claim some lives

Balls, the totals on that map are actually lower that the accumulated freezing rain QPF map.
BTR shows .61"

Blankets and sex. Maybe liquor. Put perishables outside.

I know they don't want to scare people but they're really dropping the ball by not telling people about that risk. With that much ice we're going to have tons of power outages and temperatures will be in the teens or single digits which is extremely dangerous. And some places won't be above freezing for DAYS.

a quick Google shows me what you are talking about and yeah, I only have those in the front of my house, the back and sides are just wide open

Yeah, I figured I'd use the more "conservative" outputs. Also, from reading on the 2 maps, it seems like this one might be more accurate.

What you're looking at is if it was all liquid and not freezing. What Balls posted is the actual expected ice accumulation. I think.

Trying to figure out my pool protection in Br. Will probably just run the pump and heater while below freezing.

I agree. I just think about the story I saw about the 92 year old lady in Lake Charles who has been living in her car since Laura because her insurance was screwing around. No one knew about her, and she didn't make a fuss. There are lots of older people out there just like that. They won't make a fuss and no one will know to come help them before it's too late and we can't get to them.

all the chemicals in your pool lower the freezing point significantly, just keep that pump running

Just make sure you stock up on gallons of milk before it's too late. I'd shoot for at least 10 to 12

Most all pier and beam houses in this area are much more open than just a couple of "vents" that could easily be closed off.

We’re headed out of town today. Think I’ll just shut the water off to the house and drain the lines. Should be good yeah?
Leave the outside valves open as well so if the water left in the pipes does freeze it has a place to exit. If you have the means I would blow them down just to be safe. But if you can drain any exposed lines you should be fine.
I've already shut off the well to my shop and drained all of those lines. I'll be doing the same to the house well once the bad stuff hits.
