40 years in a cage for bribing people to get her daughter into college? This is beyond retarded.

Also... what’s wrong with throwing some cash around to buy influence?? This is capitalism.... I have no problem with any of this

She isn't going to prison. They only send ugly people to prison.

Good for them. frick the IRS

It’s the tax evasion part. See Al Capone.

Umm tax evasion and fraud.
Should we let everyone out of jail that has done this and pay them back for wrongfully jailing them?

Hopefully the full house got her ready for the big house.

The bribe isn’t the problem.
Making it through a phony charity and then deducting that on your taxes? That’s the problem.
If this were pure overcharging, I could get behind complaining about overreach by federal prosecutors.
Problem is that they clearly did this and every return with this claim on there is subject to at least one count of tax fraud and one count of mail fraud per signatory. (Less sure if the latter would apply if this were e-filed but I doubt the really rich people are using Block’s software or TurboTax)

That seems excessive for something that I had assumed was commonplace amongst the wealthy.
I'm assuming that if they had made a donation in that amount to a private school it would have been fine? I still can't wrap my head around spending that kind of money to get into USC.

40 years is just the shocking headline. She won’t spend more than 3-6 months at most in jail.

40 years even for that is excessive. People get less than that for murder.

Rich folk don't do prison. Not for this kind Of stuff.

This is becoming a waste of public resources. She should pay a huge fine and do a frickton of community service. The only people who should serve jail time are the ones who were running the company.
