That was one hell of a thump. Looks like it nearly tore the ship in half.

Looked up the Mk48. Suckers are close to $6 million each.

How does the US military decide what weapons to use to take out targets? Obviously can't use a torpedo on a building in the middle of a desert, but plenty of weapons can take out a battleship. Is their jockeying amongst the branches to be the one to take out such a target?

Submarines have the unique ability to turn surface ships into submarines. They do that because they are lonely underwater and want a friend to hangout with them.

The way the back of that shite went up then started to crumble tells me that ship will not be back at sea anytime soon,

Very fair question that surely wont have an honest answer..
Just know that the Navy is the only branch with the means to take out any target

$4 million to sink this ship? I've seen bigger warships in the Quad.
We still sent a message though.

The vessel hit was the IRIS Dena, which US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says was the Islamic Republic's "prize ship".
It was one of Iran's newest warships, patrolled in deep water, and was armed with heavy guns, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles and torpedoes. It carried one helicopter.
We still sent a message though.
