Rebuilt trans in my Silverado. Only had 120k miles on it.
Have had to replace oil pressure sending switch twice in same time period. Also driver and passenger door handles broke. Those magnificent sobs at GM figured out how to use the absolute minimum amount of plastic in those handles.
Wouldn't go out of my way to buy another gm product.

never saw any that were offended by accepting Christmas bonuses from work or paid Christmas holidays off though

Don't think you would find one amongst them turning down the bonus, gifts or paid vacation. It says alot about someone's character when they take offense at a mention of a religious holiday while enjoying some of the benefits resulting from that holiday.
If I know someone is Jewish I will ask them about their religious celebrations and what plans they have. I don't plan on walking on eggshells around them though at Easter, Went or Christmas.

re: Have you ever seen someone die?

I have seen both of my parents die in hospice. I felt relief when they passed since they both had suffered mentally and physically during their illness. I don't know what is on the other side but I do know that the pain in their latter days was finally over.
How about you quit your job and give away a big chunk of your money to create your own personal depression economy. Report back to us how that works for you.

Not affected in any way? Really? Do you have a 401K?
Trump is quickly burning through the goodwill I had for him by continuing this on and off trade war. It is a very large gamble that has a major and direct effect on the US stock market.
I saw this LM ascent on TV when I was 5 years old. This was the Apollo 17 LM ascent. That image is still vivid after all these years. I think I drove my dad crazy with all the questions after seeing that.
Co worker fabricated his own swing out spare tire mount for his jeep. After a few years of use he looked back while driving down Beltway 8 to see his spare tire bouncing down the road. A miracle that nobody was hit.
Thank you for your almost service. Now you can join the AFVW. Almost veteran of foreign wars.

Episode from king of the hill with a dream where Hank was supplying propane to hell comes to mind.
That's a clean burning hell I tell you what.

Some people died from an imploding submarine someone made in their garage

Wouldn't exactly call it home made in a garage but it was designed and built by a hubris filled engineer. I have followed the story from the beginning and from a mechanical engineer stand point it was a real clown show. If I had to boil it down to a root cause I would say the project was doomed due to extraordinary poor engineering judgement backed up by a cash strapped owner / engineer who willingly ignored warning signs but pushed forward to prevent a large economic hit to himself.

I wouldn't confuse owning a smart phone or PC with actually granting any knowledge to the owner. That's the same mistake as believing a degree grants any useful knowledge to the degree holder.

Total Billed Costs: $86,926

Unbelievable!
Undergrad education cost is completely out of control especially in the Ivies where they are luring kids into an exclusive club that is run by a multi billion dollar endowment.

I look forward to my great grand children driving across it in their flying car when it opens around 2100.
So when is the alphabet peoples flag going to be just white? It would be more fitting since they have surrendered their reason.

re: Thoughts on climate science?

There are a few parts to the problem but everyone would like to lump it together in the question: Do you believe in climate change.
Well it's changing regardless of what you believe. The biggest questions are:

What is the rate of change?
What factors are affecting the rate of change?
What are the various outcomes? This is affected by the rate of change.
What would reasonable solutions look like and how much will they cost?

All I see right now is a huge bias towards gloom and doom forecasts with no discussion of the merits of the various studies. Error bounds and validity of the models aren't discussed in the news. Validity by being able to actually post predict given known inputs is the elephant in the room that is never mentioned.

Given the problematic predictive power of the various models there seem to be many who are rushing to give multi billions of dollars away and will alter whole industries and economies. This alone makes me very skeptical of motives and intent.

So to sum it up. The folks hell bent on spending hundreds of billions into the trillions of tax dollars would call me a denier. The folks who believe that man has zero impact would call me a radical. Either way I care little what anyone would think. It's more important to me that someone would take a little bit of time to exercise some critical thought on a complex subject than to state that they are either a believer or a denier.

Better yet a concrete box 6 ft underground for 24 hours a day. Should be put down for being a rabid animal.
