Is the hate for Kia and Hyundai justified?

Need a car for teen and that’s most of what I can find at decent prices.

The car industry is a mess right now.
Was looking at car prices recently.
New tacoma trd off road $43k-44k
Used with lower than 50k miles anywhere from $38k-46k
Why not just get the new then? Also this is the price of a mid sided truck for gods sake

luxury model 1/2 tons about $65k
Lower level trim with ALOT less of the luxuries (smaller radio touch screen, instrument gauges instead of all digital screen , no power seats, no vented seats, less cameras around truck exterior, fabric seats instead of leather, same engine, fixed side steps instead of power steps) $58-59k

What happened to the much cheaper versions of these vehicles?

Just wait it out if don’t absolutely need it now. I know people have been saying this for a while, but the prices really do have to come down sooner or later. They are way too high.

I’m already there

Sold my Mercedes during Covid. Felt the time was good with the used car market and didn’t really trust a 9 year old Mercedes anymore.

Bought a 2018 white Nissan Frontier single cab very lightly used work truck for $7000 with 40,000 miles on it. I’m about to add another one to my driveway

This. I feel a genuine sense of pride every time I hop in this truck. Absolutely frick the vehicle market right now.

You think this saves you money? In that case why not lease? You are stupid.

You should look up reviews and reliability ratings for Korean cars. They’ve been killing it the last 5 years and completely rebranded their image.

This isn’t your dads Kia and Hyundai. The Genesis are some of the best cars made

I asked my son what kind of car he wanted to drive when he got his license. He said a mini cooper.

I said great. He’s 14. I purchased one. It’s a 2011 that has every option you could get on one of those cars.

The car I purchased has some paint overspray on the paint job due to someone’s carelessness and has a “bad engine”. I bought it for less than 1/3 of book value.

My son and I are going to tear down the engine, replace the timing chain, water pump, rebuild the head, replace the head gasket (the original engine problem) and correct the paint issues. He’s going to learn how to work on a car and get an awesome car for cheap.

Total cost for parts is going to be right at 700 dollars. There are ways to ride for cheaper but you have to do your own work.

I drove a Nissan Frontier for years. It was pretty indestructible. Nothing about was supposed to be off-road, but that bitch could go anywhere. Even bounced off a fairly large deer once with barely a rattle.

That guy’s not smart…. BUT i dont think leasing makes sense in a lot of cases.. speaking for myself, ive leased a couple times before- and the mileage limits are WAY too restrictive IMO…. I think one vehicle i leased had a 12k mi limit, and the other was 15k per yr.. Now, i have had years where ive driven under 12k miles.. but in most years i far exceed that and , im sorry- but if i have a vehicle, i want to be able to drive it and not constantly stress about the miles like im stressing about cell phone minutes in the year 1999….. and yeah i tried negotiating for more miles last time, but it was cost-prohibitive .. now i buy gently used and drive them as much as i want .

Maintenance and repair of your current car is still kinda the answer, however repair shops are starting to catch on. Labor prices are skyrocketing now.

This is due to a couple of different things. One is people holding onto their cars longer (the general consensus of this thread) and thereby more vehicles are in the shop due to age.

The second is that mechanic shops can't keep good help. If they get someone with even a little experience who is dependable, punctual, and not half drunk/stoned, they jack their pay up after a few months to keep them from leaving. Wages are rising everywhere but it is esp true in the trades because there are so few skilled tradesman who are dependable, drug free, and/or not raging alcoholics. This has been confirmed to me by housing contractors, HVAC company owners and several owners of small mechanic shops.

My wife and I were lukcy to buy a new car and a gently used car right before the prices started skyrocketing.

I could sell my 2020 expedition right now for what I bought it for. Prices are wack.

2007 accord I-4 checking in. What suspension work did you get done and how many miles you got on it?
I bought the car last year with 159k on the clock. I totally didn’t buy into that but it was a good deal. I haven’t verified the odometer but I checked against a few sources and it seems legit. Still didn’t trust it. Suspension isn’t completely knew. Hub assemblies still had good life left in them. Everything except the pads is from ebay motors(all new parts) with ten year warranties. Pads from autozone with lifetime. I installed the pads, rotors, calipers, struts and cv axles myself.
Parts $1000
Installation on parts by the shop plus alignment $800
