Daughter needed a car so I gave her mine and took the plunge. Screw the status shite, bought a year old loaded out Subaru Outback for about $30k and will drive the wheels off it.
10 year unlimited Mile warranty so screw any car expenses for next 10 years.

There are some reasonable pre-owned options if you check your ego at the door and aren’t bent on keeping up with the Jones.

That being said, it is complete BS…

There’s a stigma or misconception that an older vehicle can’t be fixed when it gets old. Do you sell your house when repairs are needed? Absolutely not.
keep it clean and tidy, do the necessary maintenance and you’ll get to your destinations just as fast.
You’ll be thankful when you get close to retirement that you had many years of a free ride.

I truly have a hard time understanding how a family of 4., drives a 75-100 k suv and i am assuming the other family vehicle is paid for.

Lives in a 400k plus house, 2 kids in private school. Takes multiple trips a year and supports their kids extracurricular activities. Even grossing 300k a year as a family can’t leave much to be putting up for retirement.

Even if it’s family money it’s like folks are spending their inheritance now with no thought of the future.

If you got it though hey I’m. It upset it’s your money you earned it do what you want !

I know this isn’t everyone and know there a lot of families who make a lot of sacrifices to provide for their families.

Still mind boggling when you read and see the # of people drowning financially.

Most are over leveraged at that point and Lord help them if their income takes a hit.

There are the exceptions that can afford that lifestyle and cheers to them.

Keeps me from having a huge number for a new car because I’m trading in every 3 to 5 years.

That is insane thinking. So you have perpetual car note and will never actually own anything....real genius there.

this is exactly what they want and they want everyone thinking like that poster, as though it's some how not bad that way.

Driving my paid off ‘02 Dodge and towing my paid off jon boat for the foreseeable future. I’d love to have a new truck and boat before I get too much older, but I can’t justify it.

I have a 2020 ram that is paid for, had a Karen on her phone pull out in front of me yesterday. Almost plowed right into her before she realized it and stopped.

The rest of the way home I was pissed at the thought of having to get a new vehicle

Friend got a 1.9% this week. I think companies are starting more financing options like this to sell their overpriced vehicles

It really sucks that I put 30k miles/year on a vehicle. I'll never get ahead on them. Wish I could keep em for 15 years

Are they blocking Chinese cars from our markets. I see they are over taking a lot of traditional car sales world wide. I realize a lot of this is in in the EV market though.

Bought my Nissan Rogue 1 week before Covid shutdown

29k for a SL with leather and sunroof and 0% interest.

3 years later only have 33k miles. Nissan dealer called the other day offered me 30k for it. Lol

It’s not just cars that are expensive

Maintenance costs and mechanic costs are also through the roof

Go to Bringatrailer and buy yourself a nice fleet of 30-40 year old cars. That is how I roll.

Average vehicle loan is something like $750/mo now. That's insane to me.

A friend just bought a new Laramie 2500 super king cab diesel. Gorgeous truck. $90,000. I said "$1200 a month"?

He said "$1206. I only have 89 more payments". I said "you have lost your damn mind".

I'll stick to my company truck and paid off 2012 F150 that just crossed 100k miles.

Do you have any idea how few households gross even $250k or more? It's 8%, nationally. That's 1 out of 12.

Median household is around $75k. As little as $135k puts you in the top 25%.

People living like this:
