A year ago I purchased a used 2019 Volvo XC90 with 45K miles on it. Car looked brand new. Monthly payments are $430/month. I don't think that I will buy a brand new car even again.

When I enrolled at LaTech Fall ‘82 sister took the opportunity to transfer from UT(ennessee) to then NLU for pharmacy clinicals and needed Dad’s auto transmission car so he used mine while shopping for him another.

Anyway, he was just sitting in the left turn lane at a Memphis light when he heard tires squeal. Next thing he knew he was looking at the car ceiling still strapped in the seat (it broke all 4 mounting bolts) and the car was overall 18” shorter. He got a new one and I got to sit out Summer and Fall to afford a used car working for Holiday Inn worldwide hq.

Never know who’s coming.

There is no fricking way I am paying the prices they are asking for brand new cars.

EVEN the fricking USED CARS are absurd.

Maintenance and repair of your current car is still kinda the answer, however repair shops are starting to catch on. Labor prices are skyrocketing now.

People like you bear the responsibility for a poor economy. If you don't go into debt, the butterfly effect across the economy will cause a UAW auto worker that builds the car, a Teamster driver who delivers the car and a car salesman to lose their jobs. Can you handle the guilt that comes with that? I hope not.

Build Back Better!

We have a 2013 Avalon and 2016 Highlander, bought in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Both are paid off now and they'll last us a long time still, so I haven't looked at new or used cars since 2018. This thread made me go look.

My jaw dropped. We got a 2016 Highlander Limited with 50k miles in 2018 for less than what a barebones Corolla of similar age and mileage costs now. Crazy.

All the dealers are loaded with inventory that's moving slowly and this strike will keep prices up.

That talking head needs to stick his head out of the window. I’m seeing half empty lots everywhere that sells domestic and also Toyota. Several lots are putting used vehicles in spots usually filled with new vehicles.

The only lots I see full are the Korean automakers.

At least where I’m at.

This strike is only going to prolong the lack of supply.

2017 Explorer Platinum with 46k miles. 100% paid for and I received (Jan 2018) 0% interest from Ford, a $6500 Ford discount AND a dealer discount of $6500.

The only problem with that car is that one of the two third row seats the thread used in the seat has completely dry rotted and the entire leather upholstery has come apart. I'm scouring used parts places for a replacement.

That’s why I keep buying new cars Keeps me from having a huge number for a new car because I’m trading in every 3 to 5 years. That is insane thinking. So you have perpetual car note and will never actually own anything....real genius there.

Works out great for me. I get to keep cars that are a few years old and under warranty.

Plus it allows me to get into some cool rides. For example I bought my 2017 F250 for 77k and paid it off in 3 years. Kept it for 5 so I had two years without payments and saved the money. In 2022 I traded it in for 57k with 60k miles on it and bought my 22 F250 for 82k. I put 15k down and financed 10k for 60 months. Made a few payments to help my credit then paid it off so I haven’t had a truck payment in over a year.

It makes it a whole lot easier to pull the trigger on a 90k truck when you’ve got 60k to 70k down payment and haven’t had a truck note in years.
