Bought a full self drive Tesla for wife. It was so easy, no haggling, the price is the price. Sales people don’t make commission. It was refreshing not to leave pissed 3 hours after arguing over price.

Local car dealer refuses a sale handed to them on a silver platter
The last 4 cars that I’ve bought (3 for my daughters and one for my mom) were all bought out of the state of LA.
I tried negotiating with local dealers and they refuse to budge. Out of state dealers (MS, AL) all were happy to negotiate.
The last one I bought, the salesman in Slidell told me that if I don’t buy it for their price, someone else will. I said, you’re probably right and walked out.

Looking at the replies, is the OT really sucking off car dealers now?
I’ve never bought a car in this state because every dealer here is greedy, but at the same time, this state is evidently also full of retards willing to pay whatever they ask

This isn’t hard. They decided it wasn’t worth it dealing with you and would rather wait and get what they can.

He was referred to me by a friend that used him multiple times. He is based out of MI and I am in CT. I called him and told him what I was looking for, my budget, and when I wanted it. He found a CPO 2024 with a better package for my price range. He sent me the ipacket and I said it looked good. I wired him a check that day. His guy drove to Ohio picked up the car and had it at my doorstep in CT in about 24 hours at no extra charge. They are also doing all of the out of state registration for me.
He also buys out leases so if you have a lease he will take it off your hands at no penalty.
ETA: I was looking for a 2024 but he does the same deals with new cars as well.

You’ll probably be back here complaining the original dealer you bought from treat you like shite, after you attempted to treat them like shite.

I decided to call the local dealership and told them of my pending purchase and said I preferred to buy from them, because they are in the town I live.
I'm like you. I would much rather buy from the local guy. At least you offered, and while it seems odd, different car dealers have different business models. Some are in a location where moving inventory for lower profits is much easier than drawing a line in the sand, as they have a lot of potential customers walking in the door.
I know people brag about the out of state deals they got. Good for them, but I am more relationship oriented.

At some point you just get
Tired of everyone lowballing the shite out of you. Your local dealer probably had zero incentive to meet the other price. Or the other dealer wanted to fire sale those two vehicles. Sounds like everybody won to me.

It shows how corrupt LA is with them not allowing Tesla to sell directly to the consumer.

Did the deal take place before the end of June?
Dealers have certain sale goals to meet by the automaker in order to receive additional payouts from the manufacturers. Perhaps the out of town dealer needed the sale where as the in town dealer didnt.

Does the dealer not have an unlimited supply?
If they could have made money on the deal but didn't, I'd i lmagine they don't want word getting out locally that they'll sell that car at that price. It may not be worth the profit from that one sale.

Had this same thing happen to me, only the 2 dealers were maybe 20 miles apart. Got a good deal on a Honda at the dealer about 20 miles away. The closest dealer to me is about 4 miles away, so of course, that would be my preferred dealer.
They were willing to match the price of the car, but offered me $1500 less on my trade in. The manager said he just couldn't make the numbers work. I told him the other dealer could and he straight up told me to go buy it there then. I said ok, grabbed my keys and went to the other dealer right then. Process was super smooth and I drove off with my new vehicle.
The closest dealer texted me that Monday asking if I bought the car. I told them yes, I did. He said ok and that was that.
Seems crazy to lose out on a guaranteed sale over $1500. The dealer I bought from obviously made money, so it's not like I was raping them

I have alot of experience on both sides of the desk. Dealers make profit several ways;
Sales profit over cost.
Financing- actual rate over buy rate.
Trade in value- used market is as high as giraffe poonanny. Dealers will give away the new car and profit from your undervalued trade.
Maintenance plans. - oil/filters are cheap, no plan needed.
Extended warranties - 100% markup at least.
Paint protection- 99% total bullshite.
Undercoating- useless unless you have salted roads is a waste of $$.
Tinted windows- 250 service for $500
Scothguard interior. Do it yourself for $20.00

I can't figure them out, so I don't try. I was talking Hollingworth Richards (1st) and Robinson (2nd) for a 2014 Ford F150 XLT. Robinson ended up being about $1000 cheaper out the door with runners and powered back window (Hollingsworth models didn't have these). I called Hollingsworth to see if they could do better. Salesman tried to get me to come back and test drive again as if that was worth $1000.I told him I need to know you can beat it or it's off; his manager told him no.
All that to say; who knows why. He didn't think it was worth it to beat or match, so he didn't.

Not really. It's a matter of time. If the dealership knows they will get a better price over the next 30-45 days, it's a judgement call.
It's as dumb to get your feelings hurt because a dealership won't sell you a car for the price you want (or negotiated elsewhere) as it would be for a dealership to get their feelings hurt because a you won't pay the price another buyer was willing to pay.
