This is the reasoning, and it’s completely understandable that wildlife and fisheries would be concerned, but the tactical gear and the FBI ish raid was extra.
How do you know there were in “tactical gear” other than the homeowner’s interpretation?
You realize they wear BDU style uniforms regularly, correct? It’s an olive drab top and bottom for you know…when they are blending into the woods.

Very LDWF of them to go after the one nutria not destroying the wetlands.
There's a ton of them in the canal close to this house too. People throw bread out for the ducks in the canal and sure enough there's always a handful of nutria mixed in with the ducks eating the bread.
Again makes zero sense to go after this one nutria without exterminated the canal population.

The same officers would hand over $4 if you shot it and cut off its tail. We had a couple of pet nutrias when we were kids. Many years ago. My dad made us put them outside after they started gnawing on out furniture. We had an half acre pond in the front of our home that they stayed in. They would come when we called them and would play with us. Great pets. Harmless and clean.

And Green jeans are the worst. They don't even need a warrant in most of places for searches of private property.

Wonder what would have happened if they took it out back and shot it and brought the tail to the two game wardens around front while, demanding their bounty, they were there?
I know people that probably would have done that.

And that is exactly why they told you that Tanden died and there are so many boating accidents involving mass amounts of firearms.

It left out the fact that they were fat.
I mean it is highly likely?

Word is pardons have been issued. People can still be shamed when our pets heads are on the line.

Translation: LDWF Enforcement Division has waaaaay too large a budget. Time to take out a few notches.
This state needs an enema.

There’s still a bounty right? Should have brought it out and asked for 6 dollars.

It's a nutria. It's not like he's releasing painted dogs of Africa into the population. Nutria's are EVERYWHERE.
In all likelihood, LDWF is going to seize the nutria, take it out back and shoot it.

What are the laws?
Chances are your laws are antiquated as frick?

If they have time to do crap like this, I suggest they ride around with .22s after a rain and look at the average ditch alongside Airline Hwy.
They'd have more success bagging these things than sending a mini entry team to some guy's house.

Love the bit about being dressed in tactical

I’m sure someone has already pointed out these sensationalist lines.
Unless it states otherwise in the full article, it sounds like two LDWF agents arrived in the normal field uniform with their normal sidearms. Doesn’t say anything about tactical gear. Doesn’t say that their weapons were drawn. Their current field dress looks like the old olive green military fatigues, which amounts to cargo pants.

according to the paper today Neuty is still a free rodent and has not been taken into custody as of yet. His owner has secured legal representation and is dealing with the DWLF

Anyone who thinks this is new go to the outdoor board and ask about Green Jeans. This is how they act all the time, nothing new to the people who have had to deal with them hunting and fishing.

Not a problem when the family pet is well taken care of and safely contained, but when they escape or the owner turns them loose for whatever reason, they cause problems for the local ecosystem that may not be easily fixed.
I could understand this if this were the only nutria in South Louisiana but I can assure you it isn't. If this one were to be let go in the wild literally nothing different would happen.
