The Lacoste’s are good folks. I personally know all of them. That’s all I have to add.

Y’all all making light of the situation but a nutria with a bumper stock is fricking dangerous and doesn’t belong in the hands of civilians.

It’s not like LDWF opened some extensive investigation here. These folks did a fluff piece for the Times-Picayune and WWL showing off their pet nutria, so LDWF showed up at their

It's a waste of resources, and bad PR, to confiscate the pet nutria. But you're right, the owners should have been bright enough not to agree to publicize having a wild animal for a pet. And it should have been obvious to the newspaper what the end result of their article would be.

So there were two options. Seize the animal or contact the family outside of the public eye and inform them that they need to purchase the $20 annual nongame quadruped exhibitor license and facilitate the purchase. Probably should have chosen door number two.

Edit: The family could have also looked into the laws themselves and seen how easily this could be handled. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

262. Nongame quadrupeds; breeding, propagation, and exhibition
A. Whoever desires to engage in the business of raising and/or exhibiting imported or native nongame quadrupeds shall apply to the department for a license to do so. If it appears that the application is made in good faith, upon a payment of twenty dollars, a nongame quadruped exhibitor license may be issued permitting the applicant to breed and/or exhibit such animals provided he meets rules and regulations of the department.

At 5:30 p.m., two armed Wildlife and Fisheries officers, dressed in military-style fatigues arrived at the Lacoste home

The level of retarded government overreach here is jaw-dropping.

I don't see the harm in having a pet nutria. Breeding them would not be a good thing but keeping one as a pet should be ok.

All I read was that they were wearing fatigues. Odd thing to point out since fatigues are pretty Common pants for anyone in law enforcements

LDWF agents almost always have green fatigues on and look pretty tactical but you have to realize that the majority of their stops are with armed individuals. The description of the agents was definitely written by a blue haired smelly liberal.

I wonder if the national/international media is going pickup on this story. Heck even the late night comedians will have a field day with this one.

The owners claim they called LDWF when they first caught it and were told they didn't need to do anything.

True? Who knows? But it wouldn't surprise me.

If the son was smart, he would have had a boating accident and lost the pet.

You spent a shitload of time putting all that together but had you even read the snip from OP you would have realized how much time you wasted.

The family contacted ldfw when they found the nutria and was told it was not advisable but not illegal to keep.

The fact that the wildlife agents are being made out to be bullies who showed up in riot gear is a bit ridiculous, all things considered.
