What a crock of shite this whole thing was. Whoever put this plan in motion for LDWF needs to be fired yesterday for the idiocy displayed.

Great news. The authorities have buckled to public outrage and the nutria is going home.

I hear you but what if Neuty bit someone after LDWF allowed it to stay bc this situation was “different”?
LDWF isn’t worried about if your pet bites someone, otherwise pit bulls would have been banned a long time ago. Only reason LDWF got involved was because its an invasive species that destroys marsh banks and levees, not because they were afraid Neuty might bite someone

Why is it illegal to posses a nutria? How is this any worse than a Guinea pig?

Yes it would be a tragedy if a nutria escaped and got out into the wilds of Louisiana.......because you know there aren't any out there now

Because they’re an invasive from South America and cause a ton of damage to marsh banks and levees from digging burrows, causing erosion in the marsh and degradation of the levees. The damags they cause is why there’s a bounty program to pay people to kill them and bring in the tail.

Dude where are you from? There are literally hundreds of these rats in a canal 100 yards from these peoples house and millions probably in this state.
What do you think one family keeping one is going to matter?

If the wildlife agents truly are this bored and felt they needed to do something they could have called the owners and asked them to fill out the proper paperwork instead of showing up and making a scene out of this

Maybe not take him away but force the owner to pay to have it nurtured. I have had problems with cats from a neighborhood cat lady and they won’t put time into catching unowned cats but they will send a team in for a nutria rat that doesn’t seem to be breeding? As long is there are no babies don’t see the issue

No, the local news ratted them out. They ran a story about the adorable pet and it caught LDWF’s attention.
