Not get in legal disputes.

As with most things, you get what you pay for

Hire a third lawyer to wrangle the first two.

Did you sign any type of retainer agreement? If yes then pay him. If no then screw that guy

if you signed something for the lawyer then you agreed to let him rape you, you fricked.

getting a lawyer to fight the first lawyer will cost you more then anything you might save in not having to pay first lawyer, you fricked

just pay the damn bill and never hire a lawyer without fully understanding and having it in writing the fee and billing structure you can afford.

no matter what, you fricked

Make him document the time spent on the case. He has to show that he earned the fee.

Let him take you to court. He will not want to get in front of a judge in his operating area and explain why he is trying to rape you.

why not just satisfy the discovery request? Why do you need an attorney unless you have some exposure?

This is a specialty of lawyers, I was told law school would last 4 years if they were required to have a soul.

Is there law behind this or are you just guessing? Why would you expect an itemized bill for a retainer?

Shouldn't the retainer be applied to the cost of his services? So now you owe $2000?

Interview multiple lawyers, weigh pros and cons of each, then make well informed decision on who is best choice for you and your situation.
Had a situation many many years ago where choosing a higher priced lawyer ended up being money EXTREMELY well spent. Cringed when I initially wrote the check but Im thankful I did.
