The red and white oaks in oak hills are always falling. It seems like they are worse than the water oaks

I just saw where officials have ordered a mandatory evacuation for all of Calcasieu Parish effective at 11:00 am. Wow. That would include all of Lake Charles, right? How is that going to be possible at this late stage?!

Might be the case, I only know the water oaks from personal experience.

Both Gustav and Ike had trouble in the Gulf in 2008. They were strong cat 2s but we got lucky in a way they didn't explode in the Gulf and only maintained their strength.

You remember what was causing Gustav's troubles by chance?

I'm currently in central Lafourche and the rain bands are hitting every few minutes. Also under tornado warning

I've been concerned about this happening since late last week when I saw the upper level modeling for the gulf. It's one of those things you know is very possible but a bunch of little things could get in the way and not materialize.

Thanks. Going to head home and make final preps. I don't recall widespread power outages in BR and Livingston for Rita. But with Laura, it's really hard to know. I really feel for everyone in between, that are in this path. Praying for miracle weakening when it hits.

I remember going to bed in BR on the night of Andrew thinking he was going into Western La and waking up to shingles pelting my windows from the house across the street after he turned East at the last minute. I do not trust models or forecasters.

If I'm reading the recon data correctly, its giving 121kt (139mph) wind at surface. Stay safe everyone.
