Love alpine area. Wife and I make a trip every year in late October or early November. Usually on LSU's bye week

Taos and Angel Fire are great. There's another little town called Red River that you might like as well. Close to Angel Fire and has more things to do. If you need a place to stay there -- let me know.

This is a Monroe news source i think, but it says shelters not an option due to covid. Does this mean everywhere or just in Monroe? Monroe doesn’t need to shelter but lake Charles people need shelters.

quote:

In a press conference Tuesday, Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis, West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell, Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley and United Way of Northeast Louisiana President Janet Durden addressed their plans for the incoming storms. Officials will not open any local shelters due to COVID-19 concerns, and don’t expect residents to require any disaster needs. Since going to a shelter isn’t an option, hotels are quickly filling up.

Just popping in to say thank you to those of you posting the legit info.
I’m sure others are like myself in that I don’t usually post in here but I read it all day, every day and I’m very grateful for the information. I send most of it to my family and I’m looked at as a weather expert because of y’all.

The weather channel just showed a live look of the I 10 traffic jam leaving Lake Charles. Why have they not instituted contraflow? Didn’t we spend hundreds of millions of dollars on that interstate infrastructure for this specific reason?

I left Lake Charles yesterday. That traffic jam (exits 59-72) wasn't due to the evacuation. I'm not even sure what it was, there were some cops and semis on the side of the road but no notable damage or overturn.

Luckily - Google put me on that frontage road instead.

Rita brought it to 9.43 feet and they've got it cresting at 15.6 feet tomorrow. There won't be that big of a difference. AHPS is fear porn-ing a little bit to get people to evacuate.
