I’ve thought about Baton Rouge but aren’t they still going to get hit?
I'm no expert, but unless there's a major shift east, I wouldn't consider Baton Rouge on the "hit" list. 2-3 inches of rain, and some wind gusts. I can't imagine much in regards to damage or power loss.
If I'm wrong, please correct me. I feel like BR dodged a huge bullet.

Alexandria is way more inland than Lafayette, I'd say the opposite. Lafayette/Opelousas area atm is at a bad spot just bc of track shifting
Lake Charles is in the worst spot
Agreed
Most of my family is in Opelousas and Ville Platte. A Lake Charles track would absolutely hammer that region and I think they need to gtfo

How much further west will it go?
With the new track is NOLA a better option than Dallas?
Yes.
Just get on I-10 and get the first room available after you get to Baton Rouge and you should be fine for power.

Yea. I lived a couple miles south during Harvey and was fine. Got bored from being stuck in the house. I was very fortunate.

What’s this looking like for da laffy krewe? 60-70 Mph winds and 3-4” of rain?
I was living in LC for Rita, how did it effect Lafayette?

Someone suggested Houston to me last night.
The clusterfrick there has already begun apparently.

Just an FYI if you’re headed to Austin or San Antonio, avoid Houston. All south exits are blocked off already. They’re sending everyone back north. Go around!

Does anyone in here use Twitter to track updates? I’m putting together a Twitter list and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for people to follow for good updates.

I think my mom prefers me to go there to her home in VP than stay at our home but we did that for Lili and it wasn’t good. Us they have trees all around their home.
We have zero trees to worry about, we have a generator, freezer full of bags of ice, pool house with window units. Crossing my fingers.
Brothernis a lineman for cleco there — he’s going to be busy.

Honestly, TD is the best place for any news. This is as up to the second as any considering how many eyes will be on the news and every social media platform on earth.

Yeah Rita also came right after Katrina so things were already tense.
I recall Rita passing by the gulf south of Slidell in the middle of the night and we lost 2 cypress trees. Trees that made it through Katrina, got whacked in Rita!

Only good news for East Tx/SWLA is that it is forecast to move very quickly out of the area of initial impact. Hopefully that will mean less damage to those areas.

I live in Eunice and work in Opelousas, getting more nervous by each update

Was always the risk with Houston if you left late. On even the most western global model, a place like Katy will be safer than Lake Charles (although both are relatively safe anyway), but the sheer amount of people is a disaster. 100+ died in just the evacuations from Rita.
