Looks like an Ike landfall on the peninsula.

TWC just showed the Euro Ensemble, and the storm is tracking south of the main track. The Bermuda High appears to be pushing farther west according to the water vaper image.

It’s the diff between it being a cat 1-2 or a cat 3-5. Basically a lot more powerful and damaging. Cat 1-2 knock out power, tear up your shingles, break branches and push trees down. Cat 3-5 can wipe entire towns off the map, and have huge storm surges.

Of course this entirely depends on how close you live to the coast. Right on the coast, I would say the above applies. Being 60-80 miles inland, something like Baton Rouge, it can soften the blow enough to make quite a difference.

This entire week has been a shite show from the forecasting. We’re looking at a system which was originally forecasted to make landfall around Pensacola now potentially threatening Houston.

Fricking Rita all over again.

Well Rita was a cat 5 in the gulf. Laura is still a tropical storm expecting to strengthen into landfall. This doesn't feel nearly as ominous

Rita was worse in BR than Katrina. Do we have similar experience from Laura?

Best of luck to everyone in SW La and East Tx

This here. People forget that Rita was a monster while it was out in the gulf. The storm surge was flooding all of the Louisiana coast on it's way to eviscerating Cameron.

We were in BR for Gustav......it was brutal around Kenilworth. House got nailed (uninhabitable). Luckily we’re at in-laws when it hit. Didn’t get back into house until construction was completed.

frick. Now, we’re in The Woodlands and it could be Gustav Part II.

Drinking coffee, heading to H-E-B and Specs later.

Where you headed?

I have been pushing for BR for 2 days. I should have booked rooms yesterday. We are 100% going east, just am not sure how far. If it keeps west, her mom's place in MS should work. I just don't want to go that far out.

I rode out Gustav in Magnolia Wood subdivision and will never do something like that again. After it passed we could not get out our driveway or drive down our streets.

Me and some of the neighbors got out with chainsaws and cut us a path to leave the subdivision. I lost 7 trees just in my yard alone and was without power for 13 days!

Where you headed? We are still going NW Houston. Not a flood zone where we will be. Right outside the outer bands. Hopefully we avoid all the effects

We're riding it out in NW Houston also. I'm mostly worried about the streets flooding around us.

If I'm in Beaumont at a hotel, would i be better off just staying here or driving home to Gonzales, La?

I’m in Sulphur/Westlake and driving home to Gonzales shortly.

Meh. That Pensacola talk was probably three days ago. These kind of storms are hard to pin down for a solid long range prediction because of where it was forming.

It it keeps pushing west today, and doesn't get to be a cat 4, then I'm staying home in Lake Charles. If not, there's a very secure building I can stay a night at in Jeff Davis.

Look in Covington or Mandeville if you don't want to go as far as MS.

I can’t stand how difficult this has gotten to know the track this late in the game. I’ve got free cancellation until tonight at 6. The last thing I want though is to end up getting trapped in Texas due to flooding around us.

I’ve thought about Baton Rouge but aren’t they still going to get hit? I’ve got to have electricity and internet to support work operations during this.

May just drive to Austin.

My house was right around the corner, near Highland and Staring. I didn't get power back for damn near 2 weeks. Trees down everywhere.

Does anyone recall how much damage Rita did to Morgan city? I can’t find it and am trying to use it as a gauge for Laura.

Morgan City didn't get much for Katrina and Rita outside of loss of power.
