BBC did a story on visiting secret army training centers for ukraine. Very professionally done but the reporter said one thing struck him.......most of the new soldiers being trained were in their 40s and 50s.
Since we know trinidadtiger loves to link his sources

In the hail of machine gun fire and instructors’ commands, the most striking aspect of the scene is the age of the new recruits. Most seem to be in their 40s and 50s.

Two and a half years into the war, and Ukraine is desperate for more troops and brought into force a new conscription law which lowered the age of men joining from 27 to 25. Military service for women is not mandatory.
The drive for younger conscripts has not hit this group of men.

One soldier who’s accompanied us to the site says that if the new intake have not acquired enough fighting skills they will not be sent to the frontline.
“We’re not going to send them to their deaths,” he says sharply.

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 03 September 2024
As the school year begins across Russia, the Russian state is introducing and funding a new military training module. The module is part of a new programme called Foundations of Security and Defence of the Motherland for 15 to 18 year olds. The course has 11 modules, requiring 68 teaching hours. The course will cover a range of topics including combined arms combat and small arms familiarisation. It is aimed at "forming values, acquiring knowledge and skills that ensure readiness to fulfil the constitutional duty to protect the State."
The programme seeks to create and will likely result in a more militarised and security focused society. The new youth strategy which was approved by the government in August 2024 aims at raising the prestige of military service, instilling patriotism, and civic duty responsibility, but primarily prepare pre-conscription age teenagers mentally and physically for military service.
There is additionally an increase in the number of summer camps for children which engage in various military activities. The strategy notes that in the last 30 years youth values had shifted from collectivism to individualism and from statism to cosmopolitanism. It claims that the ideological expansionism of Russia's geopolitical competitors had led to the weakening of traditional values and growth of individualism. The new strategy aims to reverse that process, with the militarization of youth as an integral part of that process.

He must not be a football fan. Everyone knows sometimes it’s fruitless to go up the middle. Often an end run works the best.

Reports on Pokrovsk seem less negative/frequent lately, which seems like it might be a good sign?

Russia just hit the Military Institute of Communication in Poltava and killed 41 Ukrainian servicemen.
This is just absolute negligence on the part of Ukrainian military leadership.
Poltava is not that far from Russia. If these men were in Lviv, there would be plenty of warning time.
But a well-known, public site near the front? Absolutely inexcusable for soldiers to be working there. Ukraine cannot afford to lose men to stupid leadership mistakes like this.
EDIT: More than 180 injured. Zelensky is now talking about the need for more air defense to prevent this kind of attack, but the truth is that this disaster was entirely preventable.

Ukraine put another brigade (a good one, I believe) on that front to attack the north flank of the Russian push, and it's definitely slowed the Russian advance a bit. Russia is still moving forward, though.

Saw a video where Ukraine had moved the 11th Artillery Brigade to Pokrovsk and that they had already made a noticeable difference.

Missiles would never be shipped before the election. And certainly not after.
If they did, this is a direct act of war against Russia by the US.
Now time for the keyboard warriors to chime in, if they nuke us we will nuke them.....uh we will all be dead.
The last thing cargo pants needs are long range missiles. We gave him patriots and they end up in Poland, bouncing off the heads of his own people. Give him f/16s and he runs them in ground. He gets those missiles they might end up in nato countries blowing up schools.....thats if he hasnt sold them to malcontents in Africa already.
Can this guy stop whining and just fight? The first dollar we gave was too much and now 200 billion is not enough. At least hold the line for 24 hours, is that asking too much.

The Russians appear to be active in most areas of the front, but they’re putting a lot of resources into the attack south of Pokrovsk, which flanks the irreplaceable prewar defensive lines. The Ukranians are going to lose Vuhledar, and that whole stretch of the front. This will start a chain reaction, and a retreat, that walks them back to the Dnieper.
The Ukrainians just can’t defend everywhere at all times anymore. The Russians took Sinkovka after the Ukranians weakened their defenses there, which exposes Kupyansk, the Russians have also taken ground near Seversk and they’re testing the area north of Robotyne.

Hey if they wanted to defend that land they would. They just don’t feel like it and those parts aren’t important. Trust Zelensky bro

I'm surprised this has been upvoted twice to 0 downvotes so far considering
1) its a negative post about Ukraine's chances and
2) the poster

That may prove to be true, but it wasn’t long ago but before the Kursk offensive that you and others were saying the Ukranian defenses were falling apart.
Oh and btw, it doesn’t appear that Russia can defend everywhere at all times either.

This entire post is nonsense. It's ok for Iran to furnish drones and North Korea artillery shells to Russia but the U.S. can't provide long range weaponry to Ukraine?

Small kids should just give their lunch money to bigger kids because the bigger kids could bully them, and then they will have no lunch money and a black eye. Just proactively give away everything because someone may try to take it one day. Bow down and beg Putin to accept our apologies for ever telling him “no” because he may just be crazy, y’all.

If tweet fails to load, click here. If this is true then the employees of the Kursk oblast FSB might want to consider avoiding windows for a very long time.

The fleeing Russians left everything behind, including top secret documents. According to the leadership, they were supposed to burn the most sensitive documents to prevent them from leaking, but they didn't. Most of the documents were handed over to journalist Dmytro
I wonder what the pages that were not turned to the the journalist contained. I wonder if it contained information that Ukraine could use to break the Kremlin's stranglehold on information distribution in Ukraine, its network of spies and collaborators inside Ukraine, or even information on how to break into Russia's military communication?

Russian occupation officials announced the start of the school year in occupied Ukraine, highlighting Russia's various efforts to coopt the educational system and forcibly Russify and militarize Ukrainian children and youth.
They've been trying to do that since Stalin, but at least the mass liquidations stopped.

And -- for like the 10th time -- what are the Russian army objectives?
I get the sense that Putin has a wolf by the ears and can't let go without getting badly bitten.
