MSU down 2 to SF with less than 3 to play. Hubbard went down 2.5 minutes into the game.

Oline might be a problem though.
Not for MS. Jackie Slater would be a candidate for best O lineman of all time, and there are plenty of all-pros to round out the rest of the line.

In general you can get on most public courses as a single. I was skeptical when I went down to Pebble Beach to try it. When I went in the pro shop to inquire about a possible opening for a single, they asked me if I could be on the first tee in 10 minutes. I paid the fee (ouch), went to the tee, and was off and running. People make their reservations early, and something always comes up for several players during a typical day.
re: Fuzzy Zoeller has passed away

I had 2 interactions with Fuzzy. I played in The Fedex St Jude pro-am a few times One year a guy I played with was trying to get autographs for his son. He asked a very drunk Fuzzy for an autograph, and Fuzzy said, "frick you and your son.". The guy walked away. A few minutes later Fuzzy showed up at our table to apologize, and offered to sign for the guy. He no longer wanted the autograph. Fuzzy reached in his pocket, grabbed a $100 bill, dropped it on the table, and said, "Drinks are on me." Well, it was a pro-am and drinks were on Fedex. We gave the money to our server.
I met him 20 years later in The Villages. He and Peter Jacobsen were promoting their vodka at Nancy Lopez's charity tournament at our Lopez Legacy course. He didn't look good, but he was very nice to everyone.

I taught an internet marketing class at Ole Miss one year. The number of good-looking girls in the class was ridiculous.

Good Lord. UNO banks a 3 to tie the game. MSU banks a 3 to go back up with 1.9 left.

Hubbard had 4 in the first half and 21 in the 2nd half. State went on a 14-0 run to force OT, but they could have won easily with reasonable FT shooting.

I live in FL with a bunch of Yankees and everyone of them was talking about the piss and miss this morning after golf. They were all disappointed to hear that the game was no longer on Thanksgiving.
re: Most unique grandparent names (what their grandkids call them) you've heard of?
Posted by Allyn McKeen on 11/23/25 at 1:23 pm to Sull
My family only sounds strange because the names aren't American English.
In Denmark you dad is far and your mother is mor. Your mother's mom is mormor. Your mother's dad is morfar. Your dad's mom is farmor. Your dad's father is farfar. If you have a step something you use best in the name like bestmor or bestfar. In most cases the r is dropped at the end of far for grandfathers leaving morfa and farfa.

re: What are the nicer public courses in your area?
Posted by Allyn McKeen on 11/19/25 at 1:07 pm to makersmark1
All of the courses are within 30 to 35 minutes by golf cart. I live in the middle of the community, so most of the courses are within 15 to 20 minutes by cart. If you live towards the north or South border, the longest drives will run you an hour by cart, so most people will take a car and pair up with someone more local. I have 4 executive courses within 5 minutes and another 20 or so within 15 minutes.
I think you can go anywhere in The Villages and throw a rock in any direction, and you will hit someone in the head that is playing golf. We do more than 3 million rounds per year.

It is 918 holes. We have 15 championship courses with 18 or 27 holes each. We play the 27 hole courses in waves. Tee times run from 7:30 to 9:28 for morning rounds. Foursomes. If you start on A, you go to B for the back nine. The people that start on B go to C. The people that start on C go to A for the back nine. For example, I am at Evans Prairie tomorrow. I start on the Osprey 9 and turn to Egret. I won't play Killdeer. On Friday I am at Havana and will play Kenya and Hemingway. The afternoon wave starts just before noon. The courses with only 18 holes have straight tee times all day.
The rest of the holes are executive courses or pitch and putt courses. The executive courses are par 27 to 29. The pitch and putt courses are 9 holes under 100 yards. Very good for wedge practice to real greens. All of these courses are free for residents. There are 50 or so of these courses. There are 4 in my neighborhood.

It is a 55+ community, but anyone can come in to play the courses. Residents get a reduced rate, and you can buy an Enhanced Membership for lower rates and higher priority for tee times and course selection.
If anyone is ever interested in The Villages, they have a Lifestyle Package where you get a house, cart, and membership for a few days so you can see what it is actually like to live here. When you visit, you keep telling yourself that this place can't be real, but it's real.
... and the STD stories you always hear are a myth.

I live in The Villages now, and we have 918 holes available. The original 18 is not great, but all of the newer ones are solid. I take a pass on all of the executive courses. They take a beating with sun up to sun down play.
The Woodlands opened last week, and it is the only championship track I haven't played yet. Lopez, Glenview, Southern Oaks, Palmer, Cane Garden, Havana, and Mallory Hills are my favorites. I can take my cart to all of them, and most have good restaurants for lunch afterwards. Prices are pretty good for members. I pay less than $50 per round. Lots of leagues and tourneys with high-quality golfers for competition as well. I love it.

Wow. After the 6th time watching, I noticed that there were 2 dogs in the clip. Must be an optical illusion.

I went down and watched them play on Thursday. Those girls are amazing. Linn Grant is leading the tournament going into the final round. She is averaging 302 off of the tee. Jennifer Kuocho is second and averaging 296. Julia Lopez Ramirez is the longest hitter on the LPGA. She won the SEC individual title twice on the same course, and she is back in the pack at 30th after a rough day one.
The talent on the tour is top notch. This was my first LPGA event in person, and I was super impressed.

Back in the day the drinking age in LA was 18. Beer was 18 in MS, but other alcohol was 21. We used to cross the border on 51 to go to Smiley's (I think). We were 16 or 17, but they weren't huge on checking your ID.
A Tangipahoa deputy was usually in the parking lot trying to figure out who was the most sober for the drive back. They told us to stick to 51, because Smiley had a deal with the Pike County boys not to bust his customers, and we were to stay off of I-55 because the MS state troopers didn't play.

I went from Foot Joy to Sketchers a couple of years ago. Very comfortable, but they keep coming unglued on the toe. I went to the PGA Superstore to get Footjoys again, but I came home with a $70 pair of Adidas, and they are great shoes so far.
