Putin apologists have given way to Stalin apologists

I’m no Stalin apologist. I think he was a mother fricker. But the collectivisation of the Kulak farms went from bad to worse because the central government was lied to about what was happening.

The reality was that, deprived of financial incentives, folks stopped working. So crop yields went to shite. But inspectors had been reporting that work was proceeding on the crops at a satisfactory pace. No surprise to people with sense, the inspectors had no incentive and they were also too lazy to actually check. The government assumed that the farmers were hoarding grain, so they denuded the area of any grain produced, thinking that the hoarded grain would have to be locally consumed.

It turned out that there was not much hoarded grain, and that the real problem was Communism. Mass starvation ensued. He sure taught them.

Russia has been bankrolling the fringe left and fringe right for years. They don't care about ideology, they want division, and they're getting it.

Thanks for the clarification.

Stalin had no consideration or respect for life in any event, his own subjects or anybody else's... even if stuff like this was not completely intentional, he did not lose any sleep over it.

Krushev did...

Has Mighty Russia crushed the Kursk incursion yet? Is the SMO still going according to plan?

I like the idea of breaking into Russia at Logachevka. The Oskil River would protect their left flank. They could pretty easily drive on Urazovo and set up a blocking force. Then turn to Troitske and roll back south.

Is this the "retake the Donbas in the arse" maneuver that you've been promoting? If so it seems like the Kursk offensive has proven it can be done.

ISW Update Aug 25th

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces recently regained lost positions in Kursk Oblast amid reports of continued Ukrainian attacks in the area on August 25.

The Russian military likely continues to redeploy forces from lower priority sectors of the frontline in Ukraine to the frontline in Kursk Oblast.

French authorities arrested Telegram founder Pavel Durov on August 24, prompting concern among Russian ultranationalist milbloggers about their ability to report freely on the war in Ukraine. ISW has not observed any direct evidence indicating that Durov's arrest will affect Telegram operations in the near term, however.

Russian milbloggers reacted to Durov's arrest by focusing on how Russian soldiers rely on ad-hoc communications, including Telegram, for organizing operations in Ukraine and called on the Russian military command to establish an adequate official communication system.

Russian forces recently advanced near and within Toretsk and southwest of Donetsk City.

A popular Russian channel says that Telegram is also used by Russian forces to communicate, and that if Western intelligence services gain access to it, they could obtain sensitive information about the Russian military. They also mention Discord.

Oh man I'd love for discord to get nuked. I want to go back to the days when all the walk throughs for fixing random shite was on forums instead of locked off in some annoying as frick to use discord server.

In his nightly address, Zelensky said that Ukraine took two more settlements in Kursk today. I certainly believe that Ukraine still has the initiative and is still advancing, but the advances are slow now -- mainly because Ukraine is finally up against the Russian hard points of Korenevo in the northwest and Belitsa/Giri in the east.

If Ukraine can take those, then they will have a territory that they can hold until the end of the war, if that's what they want to do. (I'm not even sure that Belitsa/Giri is really necessary.)

Good grief that some think that any social media platform is not hackable is clueless.

I believe that it was the head of Sun Microsystems in the mid 1980's who said that nothing is private any longer.

The NSA knows about every Telegram keystroke in real time.

And the Russian retarded pillow fight midget wrestling media is trying to say that the CIA had the Telegram guy arrested to pressure him to give up the secret codes to unlock the algorithm or whatever.

Niger, please.

Donbas in the arse offensive is a general maneuver to attack the Donbas by going through Russia to get around the defensive lines in the Donbas. I was thinking that they would use the Psyksy river to protect their flank, but your idea works too.

Rotate out and replace the maneuver element in Kursk, there's your resources.

I don't know, maybe?

There are certainly things going on in the south

quote:

In addition to our colleague’s post about the deployment of the LTR-25 radar station in the Romanian Cataloi, we would like to note that the radar has already begun operating in the Black Sea region.

The radar's capabilities will allow the Alliance to cover a wide range of tasks, both in detecting surface and air targets. And it's not difficult to guess who this will be aimed at.

These are by no means pacifist tasks. With the arrival of F-16 fighters, this radar will significantly simplify the work of Ukrainian units in targeting such important areas as Crimea and the Kherson region.

An interesting situation is emerging. There are more and more military assets near the Russian shores. This station is just the tip of the iceberg. There are also dozens of drones and aircraft, not to mention satellites.

It seems the Russians have given up hope that the US will continue to block the Ukrainian use of long range ATACMs.
quote:

If Washington did allow Ukraine to strike military targets deeper within Russia with U.S. weapons, it would dash yet one more taboo, but Sergei Markov, a pro-Kremlin analyst, suggested that Moscow had already factored this in.

“In Russia, there is no doubt that such permission will be given,” he said. “Russia already considers that the decision has been taken by the U.S.”
quote:

“Russia tried to clearly draw these red lines, but the U.S., which is a participant in the conflict, decided that ‘We’re not going to cross any big red lines but only small ones,’” he said “They decided we are going to cut these red lines into dozens of small thin red threads, to cross them bit by bit so that there was no big event which could become a” cause of war.
quote:

A Russian academic with close ties to senior Moscow diplomats said the Russian leadership was taking the use of U.S. and Western weapons deeper in Russia “very seriously” but said it wasn’t clear whether a decision had been made on how to respond. He spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss deliberations in Moscow frankly. Russian authorities have been seeking to downplay the significance of the Ukrainian incursion and failure of its military leadership.

Russian attack on Ukrainian energy sector: over 100 missiles and 100 Shahed UAVs launched – Zelenskyy

Iryna Balachuk — Monday, 26 August 2024, 12:55

On the night and morning of 26 August, Russian forces attacked Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure with over 100 missiles and approximately 100 Shahed-type UAVs.

Source: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram

Quote: "It was one of the most devastating attacks – a combined one. More than a hundred different types of missiles, as well as approximately 100 Shahed UAVs. And, like most previous Russian strikes, this one is equally despicable, as it targets critical civilian infrastructure in the majority of our regions, from Kharkiv and Kyiv to Odesa and western regions. Unfortunately, there are fatalities. My condolences to all of the families and friends. There are dozens of wounded people, and everyone is getting the help they need."

Details: According to the president, there is significant damage done to the energy sector. At the same time, he emphasised that restoration efforts are already underway everywhere: repair crews will work around the clock to restore power to residents.

"Putin stays true to himself: this is a sick creature, as everyone has long known. However, it goes without saying that he can only accomplish what the world allows him to. [He has been demonstrating] weakness and insufficient decision-making in response to fuel terror," the president stressed.

Zelenskyy added that "every leader, every partner knows what strong decisions are needed to end this war, and to end it fairly."

"There can be no [weapon] range restrictions in Ukraine because terrorists do not have them. The defenders [...] cannot be subjected to weapon [range] restrictions when Russia uses its own weapons of all types, as well as Shahed UAVs and North Korean ballistic missiles. America, the United Kingdom, France, and other allies can help us put an end to the terror. We need solutions," Zelenskyy concluded.
