Me as an a-hole?

While true, that situation is hardly any example of that fact.

Yours was a situation of pure selfishness. You took a chance and dropped a bomb on a fragile family in a most difficult time. Their family was very gracious...more than I ever would have been.

Now giving your wife congratulations for closure in regards to her bastard that she did not give two fricks about until it was too late.....THAT is me being an a-hole.

Eta....forgot my passive aggressive

That sucks. I hate to hear people throwing away something like a 50 year marriage for a piece of arse they have absolutely nothing invested in.

Marriage is a depreciating asset bro. It's cool for like the first 3 months then it goes downhill from there

Give him a week to come clean and break off the affair or tell your Mom about it. You are betraying your Mom every minute you don't tell her and that is not fair to you or her.

Idiotic advice. This is gonna hurt everyone more than you can imagine.

Her mother is damn near 70. It’s not like she can start over. This will send her into a depression. Might kill her.

My wife cheated on me and it led to my divorce. I took the high road in fear I’d get myself in trouble
Looking back I shoulda went straight to the cheater and fought for the family that “once was”

You can bet dad has cheated before.

I’d figure out who this woman is.

Didn't your wife cheat on you? With another poster from here?

Why is someone who got cheated on and fricked over royally through silence encouraging more of the same to others that are getting cheated on?

Your mom probably knows. Let it run it's course. Just tell ole dad that he needs to not blow the money cuz it's community property and you have your eye on him.

Fighting the other guy doesn't make your (ex) wife any less of a whore.

Do you know I lawyer that you can run a hypothetical situation by? Or you could hire one for a consult.

If your Dad does decide to leave your Mom, which your knowing may force his hand, the financianal impact will be brutal considering their age. I know several people who have thought their parents were well-off only to see illness and long-term care eat away most of the money. Their money, divided, won't earn as much interest. Then you've got the problem of the bitch spending your Dad's money. When he's almost broke, she'll probably dump him and he'll be your sister and your's problem.

Your first goal is to protect their assets. You can't afford to be emotional right now.

is there anything I can do, as his daughter, if he were to marry this woman, prior to changing the will (IF that's where this is going), challenge his mental capacity in doing so?

Wow Hubba thats awesome. I wonder if the adoptive parents are pisssed that the widow talked to her?
The widow is keeping it to herself, at this point.
quote:

Did she know he was adopted??
Yes, he found out about two years ago, when she was pregnant and having some health problems with the unborn child. The parents let him know, so that if there was anything genetic, he could know and deal with it. Everything ended up okay and they both knew who my wife was. The widow said they both had looked at her Facebook and Instagram pages, and after seeing our family pictures, our kids, our sports, school and church activities as well as the fact that my dad needed a lot of our time and attention in Louisiana, they felt that everyone was happy with the status quo and there was no need to "upset both family's apple cart". It really helped my wife to learn that he knew and had wanted to reach out, but that he respected her privacy.

His parents had never shared with him, though, that my wife wanted to reach out to him. Had he known, he would have been okay with it, according to the widow. So, other than being disappointed that his parents didn't share that, she's at peace with everything, now.

In "it's a small world" news that came out of this, my wife learned that the son and his wife met in college, at the same university my wife graduated from, and that the widow was in the same sorority as my wife.

Thanks for your kind words.

That's difficult. He'd have to be impaired more often than not. Get a quick consult from an attorney.

Let it be. He probably still really loves your mother, but has his needs.

You need to get him to a doctor if you're openly questioning his mental capacity. Forget the mistress, it could be just a symptom of the underlying issue.
