Last night i found out my 68 year old dad has a mistress...

he inadvertently sent me a text meant for her. I asked him about it and he confessed to me and my sister saying how he likes this woman and will tell my mother about it. I don't know what that means if this will lead to a divorce or what. They would have celebrated 50 years next year.
as for this woman... I don't know who she is but my dad doesn't look like Sean Connery not much in the way of a fabulous personality either but he is financially well off.
I told him if he thinks he's going to bring some gold digging whore around my son (7 years old and his only grandchild) he had another thing coming.
what should I do? my mom has been with him for 50 years.
she doesn't deserve this.

That's fricking brutal. 
I agree with you about keeping your son from the POS he's seeing. Just stick to your guns in that regard. He's got to face the full consequences of his selfishness. Don't get in the middle of it, but make sure he comes clean with your mom about it. There's no way you should be tasked with carrying around that terrible secret.

If you stand to inherent a lot , and by a lot I mean $1 million + , I'd let your dad do his thing.

Ask him if he believes your mom has had an affair. That may shed light on this. You should at least get his side of things. Who knows...maybe they have some sort of arrangement going.
