When people are this dumb, it helps you understand why governments have to mandate closures.

That's just the point no one knows how long this exposed to the public, no one was testing for it until people were dying in China. Its been here for months. But destroy the economy, no worries.

So all in one stroke "we" have decided that all preventable risk is unacceptable, and we have to avoid possible hospital overruns at all costs?

They are going to start a revolution with this nonsense.

Sounds like she had a bad cold. Shut down our lives over a bad cold.

It’s not about shutting our lives down over a “bad cold” it’s about being contagious to the others that are immunocompromised. What if she came into contact with an older loved one and they died because she decided oh it’s not that bad and infected someone that it would be that bad for.

I'm not worried for me. I just don't want to kill anyone's grandma by accidentally infecting them.

I don't get why this is so hard to understand. I guess we can just chalk it up to the changing times. This "frick you" mentality by the younger, healthier generation is disgusting. We're trying to pull together to save as many of the old and weak as we can.

Also, this virus already mutated once. No one knows what it's truly capable of right now. You err on the side of caution 100% of the time with new highly contagious viruses like this one.

I was definitely not trying to fear-monger. Just answering someone’s question as to why she would have gotten tested.

That's been true of every strain and iteration of a viral flu for the last umpteen years. What's so different about this one? (We all know the answer)

yeah and some people are asymptomatic, and some people die. Just because one person has a particular experience, you can't extrapolate that to the entire world.

It does beg the question why we didn’t just quarantine the old and sick for 3 months, and go for the herd immunity route. Pass some type of law that guarantees they won’t be fired due to absences and give some temporary assistance to those people.

What if we lose half the school year, 40% of people's retirement funds, all forms of recreation for 6 months, and cause 20+% unemployment and widespread misery all to save some unknowable but not very high number of people.

The world is full of viruses. We are lucky this one isn't deadly for most people. There will be a different novel coronavirus in the near future. Move on.

From what I’ve personally seen here in SE Louisiana, a whole bunch of people believe that it’s about to mutate into a Cat 5 hurricane just off the SE Louisiana coast.
