I'd say outlets like Fox had some ridiculous things they pushed about Obama, but the big difference is that it's one of a very few larger voices of the right in the media. The left has a much, much bigger microphone with most all TV, newspaper, and social media outlets. They have almost a monopoly on the flow of information so they can easily push a narrative that most people will believe.
