This guy on Facebook says it's not flooding?

I just saw this this morning.
I think it bothers me because so many smaller churches will be out and giving when they don't have anything, and this guy has done nothing for the people of his own city except offer prayers. If I recall correctly, the Bible he preaches from says that faith without works is dead. He doesn't have to have refugees sleep in the building, but they could have started a command post for rescuers, and a food line for the hungry, they could be doing SOMETHING.

Something tells me that verse isn't in Joel's Bible.

I don't hate him, I was making an attempt at humor. Lighten up buttercup

This is not an attack on Christianity. I highly suspect many of his critics are themselves Christians.

People are attacking him because they believe he is a fraud and feel that his recent actions evidence this.

This I can agree with, I think it's a jump to automatically say he should have opened the doors and housed everyone who could get through the door, who knows how prepared they were to do that.

Why do evangelical protestants put their megachurch pastors on such a pedestal? They overlook their excesses (massive wealth, huge homes, trophy wives) and continue to worship these guys with a creepy cultish devotion.

Megachurches, prosperity gospel, cults of personality... that is not Christianity. And yes, I will shite on those guys every chance I get.

I hate people that think this way.

Osteen is a PoS but it's not his responsibility to house people and "just write a check" for it.

People love to hate on Christians these days. A Christian who's rich is going to get even more hate.

I just hate him cause he blinks too damn much.

Osteen is a douche and could possibly be a liability to the faith.

That said, this never seemed like much of a story. Did the church ever actually turn people away, or were they just not open and someone wrote a story about how they refused to take people in?

I'm happy to shite on Osteen but not if it's part of the generalized desire to tear down clergy.

It wasn't any of the churches' responsibility around the BR area to help house people and help them with recovery yet they did without closing their doors first and without giving it a second thought. And not only do they not make the kind of money he does, but they actually are in business to help people and give a damn, regardless of your religious beliefs. He is a phony who got caught not practicing what he has preached. No pity for him.

Healing Place or Swaggart didn't have people sheltered during the floods last year. They set up donations and cook teams but not shelters onsite.

But does he even really preach from the Bible?

I thought a major criticism of him from other Christians was that he doesn't actually preach the Gospel.

That couldn't be farther from the truth. Osteen misplayed this and has only opened his doors because people have been ripping him. I mean, PR matters, he is running a business after all.

Even now, notice that big fat disclaimer on opening his church up..once the shelters are full.

Christians are doing the work of the Lord in deed, not NOT helping as a church. If you're going to a church in Houston that is doing nothing in this disaster, RUN as fast as you can from that church.

He "does" but it's only the portions about prosperity. He basically says what the people want to hear
