It really isn't bad. Yeah the pic kind of makes it look that way, but you should still go and have a good time

I would have to be inebriated not to have a panic attack there.

I try to avoid that situation personally.

I think some people need to realize it isn't for everyone now. I hate music fest normally because I hate huge crowds and being boxed in. But, I always loved jazz fest because I felt there was a happy medium. If you loved the fest scene, you could go closer to the stage and have that atmosphere. However, you could also hang towards the back by the track and have space and sit down as well. I loved it. Now, I feel like it is turning into a true crowded miserable situation for me. I understand some still and enjoy it and I will just have to adjust because Jazz Fest is making too much money to care about me

But now with AirBnB and such shite exploding, there's no limit to the number of tourons in the city.

There is starting to be a backlash against BnB owners. I am seeing more and more landlord customers of mine going that route. A guy with a house a block off of Grnd Rt St John said he used to rent the house for $1100 a month. Now he gets $200 a day pretty much every weekend less headache than tenants. Jazz Fest was more than double that I'm sure, plus it's booked the whole time.

I have always been curious about just how much jazz fest makes... What is the going rate for big name bands? Smaller bands? Local bands?

How many people do they average a day ?? How much does the fairgrounds get ?? How much do the food and other vendors pay jazz fest to be there???

Best guess - what do you think jazz fest makes when it's all said and done

They did. Van Morrison drew some old folks over on Saturday. Nick Jonas didn't on Sunday....

It was packed. I was in Big Chief both days and Big Chief was packed Sunday for RHCP. Not so much for Pearl Jam.

Because Pearl Jam sucked. No one paid to listen to their new album, we wanted the hits. It was packed when they started, but not even halfway through it thinned out incredibly.

I went to J Cole and I couldn't believe how crowded it was considering RHCP were playing at the same time

I was at Gentilly Stage yesterday (at least until Nick Jonas came on) and it was perfect. Light crowds, cool breeze. Food and beer lines everywhere away from Acura were no problem. One of my better days at Jazz Fest. I don't go to Acura unless it is a band I must hear before I die.

RHCP @ Acura was Elton John bad

Difference being the entire fairgrounds was packed for Elton John day and it wasn't limited to Acura.

Jazzfest is the least trashy festival in the state

As with any large gathering of people where music and alcohol are involved, there will be trashy people. The most trashy group at JF in my opinion are the jazz fest cougars. You know, the withered up 50 year old women who try to pass off as 25 from a distance by wearing some hippy dress, swimsuit top (nevermind that they are completely flat) and cowboy hat, so that you check them out from behind until you catch up to them and realize they look like the landlady from Kingpin. Then they elbow past you in the crowd and obnoxiously dance around colliding into your group, spilling beer everywhere, and then beg you for a hit of your joint.

it really isnt that trashy, by the normal definition.

however when Jazz fest is at its worst, it's not the large crowd that is the problem, it is the inconsiderate people that have no etiquette when in a large group.

yes, more people= more inconsiderate people, but you'll find them whether it is crowded or not.

they are people that:

- stand in walkways
- get food at a booth, turn around, and start eating it right there
- come in the middle of the day claim the sliver of land in front of your set up, and pop open an umbrella.
- drunk stumble over your blanket and through your chairs
- smoke cigarettes when its shoulder to shoulder

those are a few. Most people are pretty pleasant but like anything anywhere, there can be people that ruin it.

We went Saturday and Sunday. We tried to go to the Acura Stage for Pearl Jam and it was ridiculously crowded, so we stayed a while and then ended up going back to Gentilly because we had friends with a nice setup out there. The Acura stage was miserable, we pretty much decided that we weren't going to go again if that's how it always is.

Luckily, Sunday we had VIP tickets. If we decide to go again in the future, this will be the route we take.

sounds like my experience at RHCP. that and some drunk bitch yelling at me and my SO that her area wasn't a walkway even though she was directly in front of the path to the bathrooms.
