Here in Minnesota at this time, it’s -27 actual temperature and -57 wind chill. As my uncle used to say, it’s colder than a well digger’s arse in Alaska.
To answer a few questions, yes water will freeze when thrown in the air, people don’t walk dogs when it’s this cold, they stay inside. We usually don’t cancel school until it gets to be around -20 actual temp and -40 wind chills.
I heard an explosion in my garage today and I had some high alcohol expensive beers in my garage fridge. The bottles blew apart and actually forced the fridge door open and I had beer and broken glass all over the floor. Pissed me off.

So I hear. My record cold is like -8. Sucks but doable with the right clothes. Plastic shite starts breaking when you get down in that -30 and lower range.

Not talking about the school. No district is going to risk hoping all the busses can start tomorrow while kids are waiting at stops in this weather

So many crazy thoughts. Are all of the wild animals in Iowa are going to freeze to death. Are the homeless people dying? Does gasoline freeze in the tank? How does cold weather work. I wouldn’t last a second up there. Y’all are some troopers. I guess I’m just as much of a bitch as my bitch dog

Your balls are in your stomach and you’ve gone to anteater mode.
For wind chill? Difference between being extremely uncomfortable no matter how many layers you have on vs. it physically hurting your eyes and lungs to even step outside for 15 seconds.

Does your heat run non stop? I'm in MS and when we had single digit weather my gas HVAC was running about 45 minutes per hour

Coldest I've experienced was -32 in Alaska. I went out to check on my airplane, and the metal door handle snapped in half when I tried to open the door.
I put a half full can of Dr. Pepper on the fuel pump, and it was frozen in minutes.
If you don't have an engine block heater on an auto or airplane, it ain't starting.

Same way Louisiana people always use heat index when talking about temps in August. It’s helps sound more severe.

When I lived in Ohio, I was comfortable until it got to about 10 outside. Anything below that and I'd think twice about any plans I had for the night.
The coldest air temperature I ever experienced there was -16 in about 2014 or so. It physically hurt to breathe with a -35 or so wind chill. That shite they're dealing with in Chicago/Minneapolis right now is unfathomable.

Wild animals adapt, but some die like pheasants for example. Homeless people find shelters. Gasoline never freezes, but diesel fuel can gel if it isn’t blended correctly.

Good question. Our house is insulated quite well with great windows. We keep our thermostat around 67 degrees and it’s been running about half the time. I’ll probably burn some wood in the fireplace tomorrow as it’s supposed to be even colder.
